He was a 20-20 guy in college and in his prime was very difficult to defend. I think he is worthy of being in the top 5.

I'm willing to go top tenish but not top 5

He can't really get past Jordan, Russell, Shaq, Duncan, Kobe, Kareem, or Magic and would have a tough time getting past Larry

Well, technically you're not counting anyone else's ABA stats, but point taken =).

I love how the Big 3 are all on course to be top-20 (19, 24 and 30 right now)... possibly even close to top-15 depending on how many games left in them...

If anyone has any other greats who played in the ABA and NBA, it would be great to measure up their combined stats as well.

You have to consider the drop in his stats when he joined the nba, his 5 best scoring and rebounding years all came in the aba.

Dr. J is great, but you can't equate the ABA to the NBA.

The CFL isn't as good as the NFL, but you definitely have to take it into account when grading Flutie and Warren Moon

That's always seem to me seemed to be the consensus top 5 amongst most knowledgeable basketball people, and then Kareem and Oscar Robertson come right after.

Dr. J is in that next tier down with guys like Jerry West and Elgin Baylor.

It's still hard for me to consider the most recent generation of players like Duncan, Shaq, Kobe, in the greatest all-time conversation (but they're in there somewhere).

So definitely not top 7, possibly top 10 though, definitely ranked somewhere between #8-#15

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

I didn't say completely discount his time in the aba, just that you need to consider that the stats for that league were inflated for stars compared to nba stats.

Top 15? Yes.

I think, to certain extent, he was a victim of his era. Imagine him playing in an nba where he was allowed to travel and palm the ball on a regular basis.

  But I agree, top 15.

Not sure if I am remembering this right but I think they found that both players + teams as a whole had a 20% dip in their stats from ABA to NBA after the merger.
