lol...if anything, I hope that the NBA is GREENER - all the way through June of this year.

It's greener now than ever, it's just a different type of green than the one you're suggesting.

That's the only color that matters in the NBA.

I don't care what the demographic is.  I care about the quality of play.  I, however would love to reduce the demographic of blind officials.

Yes, I think this is more noticeable than white basketball players.

I hope more white players join. Maybe the NBA can lose its "thug" image.

Not sure about the league, but the Lakers sure are...
A couple years ago they had Walton, Sasha, Farmar, Coby Karl, Chris Mihm, Ira Newbie, Vlad-Rad, and Gasol.  Over half their team.  Oh yeah, and then they got Morrison.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

TPs. Glad I wasn't the only one to wonder why this would matter in the least.

Hopefully I'm not taking this into a dangerous area of debate, but just because you recognize race doesn't mean you are racist or something.  There is nothing wrong with simply pointing it out.  As a white person, I could care less what race players in the NBA happen to be but there is no harm in talking about it.  If we are so afraid to discuss race then I think we make it a bigger issue than it should be.

TP for someone making sense. Recognizing a situation with regards to race does not make you racist. The fact that anybody does "not see the point" or the problem is trying a little too hard. This country, much like this blog is VERY PC when it comes to touchy issues even when they are not being looked at in a negative way. It's someones opinion

Tgro simply posed the question "Why does it matter?" It's a great question because it doesn't. No one said anything about anyone being racist. We're all green anyway.

Don't forget the South Americans like Splitter, Manu and Scola. Spain and Argentina can put together a full roster together. Really makes you wonder about the future of the NBA when all continents are sending people.

I actually do not consider it an irrelevant question as some might, though I agree it is irrelevant as far as watching sports goes. I find it interesting as a sociological question.

I think a lot of that is marketing though, don't you?   International basketball has gotten a lot better since I was a young man but I would say that 75% of the elite players are from the US.  Name your all international team, here is my all USA team.

Paul
Wade
Kobe
LeBron
Howard

Fair enough... but if we're playing the "why does it matter?" card... why does it matter the OP points it out or puts it up for discussion?  That's all I'm saying.  It's a discussion board, I don't see the point in saying "Why does it matter?" unless you're making some sort of judgement that the OP wants more white players or something.  Otherwise I'll just go reply "Why does it matter?" to a whole bunch of threads on here.  You aren't adding anything to the discussion, fine, just don't see the point in posting that and handing out TPs for it (unless it was a judgement that the statement of the OP was in some way racist).

Who's making a big deal here? I asked a simple question. I'm not liking how you're labeling me btw.

Didn't label you any way... (I didn't even use your name did I?)  And what did I say about you making a big deal?  I didn't.

This is why I didn't want to even go here because I knew someone would take it the wrong way so I'll bow out, point being the disucssion is fine to have, this is a discussion board.  That's it.
