You guys wanna know something fun?

Of the 2nd round picks from this draft, the following have played so far:

Justin Harper (32) for 1 minute
Shelvin Mack (34) for 8 minutes on the Wizards, an awful team
Jeremy Tyler (39) for 24 seconds
John Leuer (40) for the Bucks, an awful team
Charles Jenkins (44) for 1 minute
Josh Harrellson (45) for 9 minutes on the Knicks, who only have Jared Jeffries as a back up Center option.
Andrew Goudelock (46) for about 20 minutes in 3 games on the Lakers.
Isaiah Thomas (60) for the Kings.

That is 8 players in all of the 2nd round this year, and only two have contributed anything of note. (Leuer and Thomas)

Sorry if I don't feel too sorry for Moore not playing yet.

I'm surprised this is such a big deal, he was just stating the confidence he has in himself, knowing that he's better than Cole.
For what it's worth, Davis also had the confidence that he was "stuck in Garnett's shadow" ...

that's a good point, it certainly doesn't mean he's right one way or the other, but I much prefer the guy to have confidence in himself instead of the alternative

Moore didn't show much defensively in the preseason. Too small to guard forwards and bigger guards, too slow-footed to stay with quicker guards. He'll stick around because he can shoot, but I'm not sure he'll be as good as people expect him to be.
Glad I wasn't the only one to notice this.

Of course he's too small to guard forwards.  But he may have some potential to be a rotational combo guard, and he can guard some 1's and 2's adequately now, with just a couple of weeks of rookie preseason.
Doc tried him at the PG spot in preseason, and he didn't look good trying to move his feet against Calderon and Bayless. Didn't look like had any special assets in the ball handling/passing department either.

I agree that there is certainly a niche in the NBA occupied by undersized, moderately-athletic shooting specialists -- I was merely pointing out that his ceiling may be a Delonte West/Eddie House type of contribution, which may disappoint some people around here.

I think that's a reasonable type of ceiling to expect for him--and pretty good for a late second round pick.

He'll get his chance tonight with all the starters sucking wind.

I hope so, but I'm not so sure it'll happen. I've yet to see, since the Big 3 came together, Doc stick to any of his promises to limit minutes -- unless, of course, by "limit" he means no more than 40. Wouldn't surprise me at all to see Ray, KG and Rondo hit 30 minutes or more. If we don't see some significant minutes tonight from Moore, Trey J and Stiemsma, then we probably never will unless we're hit with a rash of injuries. It's kind of amazing that Rondo was the starter on the championship team, given Doc's near-total lack of distrust of young guys. The newbies certainly need to prove themselves, but you can never prove yourself if you don't get a chance.

Garnett has averaged 30 minutes a night in Boston. Pierce has averaged about 34. That's right on par with most stars over 30 in the League. When did it become normal for any team to play their starters only 25 minutes a night?

How many other teams have stars over 30 that are the primary players..the ones needed to do it all..? They might have one, like Nash....but not all 3.... And Nash is not the player he once was.

The one fact our own history will show us is that the last 2 Januarary's, our over 30 stars were worn out.

Kobe averaged 34 a night last year.
Dirk averaged 34 a night last year, and Terry averaged 31.
Most of the Spurs older starters averaged around 30 a night.

NBA players around this age simply play around 30 a night or so.

Well, i see your point..but the celts have no one they play / depend on like these three, and these three are 35 +. kobe and dirk have a young support unit...SA  is just old..and will run out of gas also this year. i just think it is better to cycle youth / age......then mesh before the playoffs...have the youth learn / take the harder vets....they will get it.....

The problem with this is that it's practically impossible to just find younger guys that can step in and take over during the season. There are only so many starting caliber players in the NBA, and you can't just stock up on them. It's not like the Celtics can convince quality young players to come play for the minimum, and by being successful, they really have no chance of obtaining young starters through the draft. Boston really has no other option but this for the season, because of the contracts of the Big 3. That's not to say that this is a terrible thing, because the team won a title and was a serious contender for the other 3 since they built this squad, and seem to be in as good a position as they can be this year. It's just a pretty unavoidable situation they find themselves in.

Mavs in June when they won

Dirk - 33 years old
Kidd - 38 years old
Terry - 33 years old
Marion - 33 years old
Cardinal - 34 years old
Stevenson - 30 years old

That's the age of some major players on last years NBA champ.
