Allen Iverson?
Do the Celtics need "someone to create their own shots bad" or do they need "someone to create bad shots"?
Just give everyone the green light to fire up any shot they want. That should have the same effect.
Actually you've said the magic word... CREATE! Thats all we're saying here... the Celts don't have a creator unless his name is Pierce. Rondo isn't much of a creator of his own shots also he's just really quick.
Out offense isn't about iso plays. Actually though, Ray creates many of his own shots, as does Rondo. Rondo is really quick AND he creates his own shots. If not, who are you saying is creating Rondo's shots when he penetrates?
Sounds to me like some people are talking about getting guys who want to shoot every play, but that is not how our offense works. That is what Nate Robinson was, and I'll pass on that.
Ray's terrible when he has to creat his own shot. He has some success against scrubs, but even then it's iffy. The less Ray has to dribble the better off he is.
I agree that Ray is a horrible dribbler, but he can get to the rim on his own. It is when he backs out and gets trapped that he is an embarrassment. He also makes a lot of bad kickout passes on penetration. But both of those are side issues. If Ray stopped thinking about the team, he would make less bad passes and would create more shots for himself like he has in the past.
Historically, Ray has created his shot more but we have made his game more narrow on the Celtics due to our system. We would do the same to most other shooters. Doc did the same with Pierce. This has made Pierce more efficient and a winner instead of just a show-off.
Before the KG trade Pierce and Ray both dribbled a lot. It is Doc's offense that takes the ball out of their hands. I would love to have a Wade or even a Brandon Roy type who can get himself a GOOD shot off of the dribble, but we seem to be mentioning guys who just want to shoot, no matter the shot, who would cost us too much considering Danny does't want to sacrifice the future for the sake of adding pieces for this season.
