What would the reaction be here if Lebron put a choke hold on one of the Celtics after a game ended?
By league, nothing would happen. Maybe a fine. But Lebron is just too big to be choking people as he could actually hurt somebody. It wasn't a double choke by KG anyway. But as fans we see things the way we want to see them.

The point is, there would be a 20-page thread here with posters going nuts if Lebron did this to one of the Celtics. There is no place for crap like this in professional sports. It is total bush league.
Pushing, yeah no place for pushing or trash talking in sports.

I agree though I wouldn't single out Lebron any player in general would be unacceptable. KG usually does not back down from anyone short or tall. I was actually surprise to see KG grab and push someone the way he did.

KG usually walks away from conflict, but Walker must of said something to tick off KG. I think the league will deal with both KG and Walker.

No place for pushing, but trash talking is apart of every sport.

  • It's all about the TEAM!
If KG makes that shot we're going to say he had a pretty solid game and made nice contributions for us. Since he missed it, it's easy to point out it falls short of what we needed because unfortunately, it did. But to see Walker go straight to KG IMMEDIATELY after the shot and game over and start trash talking directly to KG, I think KG's adrenaline was still cranking, the missed shot hurt and Walker said something that crossed the line. KG struck back.

Someone said earlier on here that they don't want to see KG be a punk but to be honest with you, perhaps if he turns around and walks away he might have been seen by Walker and the Knicks as a punk. KG brings intensity and heart to the team. We've got guys just starting with us that need to see that. After watching the replay a few times, I'm for what KG did. Walker acted like a punk directly to KG immediately after his missed shot. Walker got what was coming to him and I just don't see KG being a punk in this situation. If you want KG to back down from these kind of situations, I kind of see that as being a punk.

I don't give a [dang] if one of our players chokes someone or if someone chokes one of our players. This ain't women's hoops. It is an intense physical game. I see the same thing happen plenty of times when playing ball on the weekends.

I can only imagine how sad some of you would have felt when McHale close lined Rambis. There was no place for that either (and it was wonderful).

Larry Bird is said to have been one of the greatest trash talkers of his generation...  So a question:

Why did people respect Larry, as you never heard a bad word from others about him... While KG is literally hated by many NBA players?  Why is this so??

It's because the WAY KG goes about doing it.  There's a right way and a wrong way, and KG doesn't understand that... and I fear others must not as well as I'm sure KG will be largely defended with many responses in this thread.

I agree with your overall point but plenty of people were not fond of Bird. Isiah for one and the rest of that team. It was a different time, Dr. J wasn't tweeting away after bird embarrassed him into a choking match.

Bird is my all time favorite celtic but his time away from the game and the fact that he played in a different era of rules and media make people think he was omnipotent

I'm almost done with KG. I've never been the biggest fan of the guy and I've put up with him because he's on my team and it helped us win. But I really don't like him much and stuff like this makes it difficult to defend the guy.  I think he's a punk.

His antics is hurting his legacy, and more importantly its hurting the team. Why is he always picking on smaller players?

Or Europeans. I agree it's not right but if he's gotta do it to keep his game strong, so be it.

Interesting tweet I just read:

Quote
David Locke: Kevin Garnett's miss today should have been no shocker, with game on the line in his career 16 of 59 (27%)

Most players shoot around 27-28% in such situations, that's the league average from a study 82games.com did a while ago.

Names worse than KG's 27% from that study:

Kobe Bryant
Joe Johnson
Dwayne Wade (tied)

I'm not fond of what he did today, but I'm glad he did it.

The difference is, if we're winning it makes it easier to overlook. I'd take another KG in his current state if we could get another one.

I love KG..that guy was a huge part of banner 17...I don't care what he does on court anymore...he got my respect in 2007-'08 and nothing will change that...a scrub like Bill Walker deserves it if he is going to talk trash to a HOF like KG...Walker isn't worthy of holding KG's jockstrap.
