Whay are ya'll not happy with Rondo as our point guard?

Everyone wants to trade him for deron williams or chris paul or whoever.

First of all, why aernt yall more concerned with addressing our soon to be vacant center and power foward positions?

Second of all, what has he done to get on all of you peoples bad side. Hes played his heart out for us and the only knock is that hes a bad shooter. Why are yall so unhappy with one of the best point guards in the game? I mean we have it better than almost every other team at the point guard position.

There's multiple reasons.  The biggest on the court reason for me is foul shooting.  I think he can get by without a great jump shot, plenty of guys have, but he needs to be able to hit foul shots.  He plays scared the last six minutes of the game because he doesn't want to go to the basket and get fouled.  The next reason is he has an attitude, he can be difficult to play with and difficult to get along with.  After Perkins was traded he basically pouted the rest of the season.  Another thing is it's unknown whether he can carry a team on his own, CP3 and Deron Williams have proved that they can at least carry a team and get them to the playoffs.  Though they havn't gotten to the finals yet, they've at least shown us they can be the lead guy on a team.  Rondo hasn't done that yet, maybe it's because he hasn't had the chance yet, but it has yet to be seen.  Ultimately if you can trade him for a guy that you know can be the center piece of a team I think you have to do it.  It's not that people really dislike having Rondo here, I think many people will recognize his talents.  It's just that him leading this team in the future is unknown, while you know what youre going to get out of Deron Williams and CP3.

I think trading Rondo gets so much play because he is our mos tradable commodity. most likely to bring back a marlin.

And, moving forward, some believe that Rondo's limitations will become more Pronounced after the big 3 leave.

I'm with the OP on this one... You dont know what you got til its gone. If Rondo left through trade, I think we would certainly miss him.

And i also agree that Rondo has the most trade value out of anyone on our team. Danny is known for making the big splah via trades and the only way he would be able to do that is placing Rondo into some sort of deal.

I don't think people are 'not happy' with Rondo as our PG, he is a very good player and one of the best passers in the league and fits in perfectly with the team we have at the moment.

My perspective on it however is that next year as we start to rebuild Rondo's stock is going to take a dip, he can't score very well and shoots FT's terribly that's not good characteristics of your foundation player. His passing and assist number's will probably go down as the Big 3 retires so I think it's important that we look into upgrading the position.

If we can get a Deron Williams who can score 20 points efficently and dish out 10 dimes a game we will be in a lot better position moving forward.

Essentially, having a top 5-10 PG isn't as good as having a top 3 PG. Rondo is not as good as Chris Paul or Deron Williams. That's why people wanted to trade Rondo. That doesn't necessarily make it a prudent decision, but that's the reasoning.

I didn't personally think a Rondo for Paul trade was beneficial for the Celtics, as I didn't think Chris Paul and his knee and contract situation were worth a sure thing like Rondo. But make no mistake, if Paul were here instead of Rondo, stayed healthy and signed long-term, he'd be the better choice.

To answer your question, I'm not unhappy with Rondo. I think he is one of the top young PGs in the league, and hope he's a Celtic for years to come. He's just not the building block that Chris Paul would be if he stays healthy.

I love Rondo.  I really like him as a player.

But I love the Celtics more, and what matters most to me is that the Celtics are the best team that they can be.

I believe that Rondo is a very good player, but he's also a seriously flawed player; his weaknesses are as glaring as his strengths are awesome.  

I don't view Rondo as a player to build around -- hence, since the Celtics are going into rebuilding after this season, I see Rondo as having more worth in terms of his trade value than as a player to hold onto long term.

In short, it's nothing personal.  I appreciate what we have in Rajon Rondo.  That doesn't mean I'd take him over any other player, though, and I think it's silly to suggest (or imply), as some here have done recently, that true Celtics fans would want to stick with their own players regardless of who they might get for them.

My willingness to seriously consider and advocate for trade scenarios involving Rondo is not a result of my taking for granted that Rondo is really good; rather, it's because I appreciate precisely how good he is.

Derek Fisher has been to the Finals more times than Rondo, and has a few more rings than Rondo does.  Does that mean he's better?  Would you prefer to have Derek Fisher (even in his prime) over Rondo now?

That's where I have a problem with when we were going for a rental of Chris Paul. Rondo + other assets for another point guard is a slight upgrade, a semi-lateral move. The same people proposing Rondo for a better PG is the same people saying we can't win a championship with a PG. I'd be fine with, say, Rondo for Hibbert.

However, I think people are underestimating the recruiting power of Rondo, especially now that the players are getting more say. Josh Smith and Rudy Gay are both friends of Rondo. OJ Mayo wants to play with him. Not a super team per se, which seems to be the trend nowadays, but with prudent moves (getting solid role players, depth) we'd have a very solid team for championships. In my opinion, the problem with the super teams is that they don't have a lot of talent outside of their stars with all their money being spent on a few stars (which is also another advantage of Rondo as he is cheap for a player of his caliber).

The thing is we don't know what CP3 would have been like on this team. Yeah he's a great player, but is he a great TRUE point guard, on  a team that really needs a point guard to push this team?

 Maybe. But could he handle the big personality of some one lets say a KG??? Who knows, maybe thats a reason why he didn't want to come here for a one shot chance for a title run. Wasn't going to be top dog, and would have to deffer to the big 3. Just didn't make sense not for him to come here win a champioship or closer to it then they will with the Clips, and then get a HUGE contract next year with team of choice.

Thats on thing Rondo does well, tells the Big 3 when they get the ball at the right time. Yeah he doesn't soot much, or as well, but he makes some of the best passes we've seen in years. CP3 is a good passer, but Rondo is way better. I'd reather have my point pass well and defend more than score. The only thing i'd like better would be foul shots, and those seemed to get better this year.

I love Rajon Rondo.  On this team  his pass first mentality is a positive trait. In the future, IMO, Rondo is smart enough and talented enough and still young enough to adapt and add to his game according to that future team's needs. 

I do not believe that Rondo is one dimentional point guard who has reached his peak and is now on the downside of his career.  Every year he has improved at least one facet of his game, and there is no reason to think that will not continue.

Totally disagree with the last post.

Pass-first was fine with three premier scorers in their primes in Allen, Garnett and Pierce.

But as the Miami series proved conclusively last year, those three are in decline as scorers. They can't create points at key stretches against younger defenders any longer.

And with Rondo's offense still stagnant - and that's putting it kindly - there were no points to be had down the stretch in those games.

The Celtics don't need a pass-first offensively-challenged PG any longer. They need points - from the perimeter and at the rim. I certainly agree with other posters in this thread. Until and if - a huge if at this point - Rondo develops a consistent ability to score and his horrific FT shooting improves, he is not a building block for any rebuild, he's a liability.

I applaud Ainge for trying to obtain that kind of PG. Rondo's game has not evolved into what the current incarnation of the Celtics need, and he's certainly not as talented as Chris Paul and Deron Williams.
