Can anyone honestly say that we did not improve from last year? The team that lost to the Heat in the playoffs had the same 5 starters, but with Rondo at 50%. The bench of that team vs now:

Shaq
Delonte
Jeff Green
Glen Davis
Arroyo
Troy Murphy
Pavlovic

vs

Bass
Dooling
Daniels
Pietrus
Wilcox
Pavlovic

This is the best bench we have had in the KG era.  Say what you want about the age of the big three, but we have one last legit shot at #18 this year. Pietrus is the best backup wing we have had since Posey.

what is hard to believe is that the team lost jeff green, and STILL has a strong bench.

hats off to ainge. making a championship team requires stars, but the next step is to surround them with a bench.

that ainge could conjure up this bench with the very limited resources of the celtics is amazing.

Nice. Welcome to Pietrus and I hope he has a productive and memorable career as a Celtic and leaves with a ring. But I'm worried about that knee. The Suns medical staff has to be the best in the league and I'm not too confident in ours. Anyway hopefully he will be fine.

I don't think his knee was the reason Suns let him go. It was more to do with playing time/role...he was not a happy camper.

I am so happy with this signing. If he is as a good as he was on the Magic, we got a steal.

I love the signing. I have a great respect for this guy's game watching him dominate the C's in past years.

Can he suit up tomorrow afternoon?

Definitely think we're better. Let's not forget that we were never blown out vs the Heat and had leads in every 4th quarter.

Some comparisons:

Rondo vs. One Armed Rondo
Obviously.

Pietrus vs. Green
I give the edge to Pietrus in regards to being a better fit. He's always been a role player, who has been comfortable coming off the bench. Although Green is clearly the more talented player, he really struggled adjusting to that role.

Daniels vs. ?
We really didn't play a 4th wing in the playoffs. I guess the most appropriate name here would be Sasha or Delonte when he played alongside Rondo, either way I give the edge to Daniels.

Dooling vs. West
West is the more talented player, but Dooling is a better ballhandler, applies better ball pressure, and offers more durability.

Bass vs. Davis
Bass is a better offensive player and seems much more willing to buy into the team concept. Davis had a better understanding of our defensive philosophy, but I expect Bass to improve in this regard.

Wilcox vs Krstic
Doc really never trusted the Krstic. He barely played him in the playoffs and Wilcox is a better matchup athletically vs. a Chandler, Amare, Bosh, Anthony, etc.

This is also a team that seems much more serious and focus. No players looking for the contract, acting clownish, etc., just a much more professional bunch.

Are we better? Yes. Are we being vastly underrated? Absolutely.

Danny Ainge is a wizard.

Shouldn't the props should be for our team and Doc for attracting a heck of a free agent? I thought Ainge missed out on trading Pietrus for a second round pick?

For those who are still recovering from last year's disaster, this guy is 29 years old. The O'Neals were 123 years old and the thing that happened to Quisey was a very unfortunate accident.

Anyway, welcome to Boston. You made a good choice.

Not only is this bench quite solid talentwise, they also are quite athletic. Trotting 4 of them out there with Rondo could lead to a lot of highlights.

Nice pick-up - if he can stay reasonably healthy, he will help.  Given the circumstances (DWest not coming, Jeff Green's condition, not to mention losing Nenad for nothing), I think Ainge has done a great job over the past few weeks.  We are not what anyone would call world-beaters, but still formidable, and we have good back-ups at all spots.  And I keep thinking about Dallas....not a roster of stars, and they not only managed to win, but did so without Butler.
