I will say a prayer for Jeff Green for a healthy and quick recovery and hope he is in the best hands. Get better Jeff.

You know, I predicted he wouldn't play a single game for the Celtics this year. If I was going to be right, this isn't the way I would have wanted to be.

How is it possible that over a 25 year period one NBA team could have 3 tremendously young athletes with bad hearts?

You might want to ask Trailblazer fans on bad luck with injuries.

We aren't the only fan base to suffer debilitating losses like this.

Now in order to get our priorities straight, keep Jeff Green in our prayers. Basketball is no longer a priority here so I won't bother commenting on salary cap implications regarding a disabled player.
You know the difference, though. This is a contact sport and if Green blew out an Achilles's or a knee or elbow, I could live with that. Injuries happen.

Heart problems where people die or their lives are at stake, that is a whole different thing and I am really having a hard time with this being someone that acutely remembers where they were EXACTLY, when the news was announced regarding the deaths of both Len Bias and Reggie Lewis.

I feel for Blazer fans but I think this is very different.

Have to give Jeff Green a tremendous amount of credit. It is incredible how upbeat he remains on his Twitter account despite the surgery and recovery he is facing.

No doubt this was to be Jeff Green's breakout year as a Celtic. He must be pretty devastated right now. All of the moves the Celtics made in building the second unit (all of which I applaud), were built around our ability to bring in someone with size at the SF position. That said, Danny has also stockpiled a lot of very versatile players. Marquis and Sasha being two of them. Green's departure also makes a roster spot for Gilbert Brown or another G/F. So yes I doubt we will be able to replace Green. But Jjuan has plenty of speed to replace him at the PF position with the small unit. We will loose size by not having him at SF; but this may be the end of the world.

Will be interesting to see if Jjuan is able to step up and fill that role.

Sorry to hear about that - You should be able to get a solid player with his exception from a team trying to shed salary.

So do I. Ainge has done an excellent job the last 10 months or so

I think he's done a lousy job the past 10 months.  Besides the Perk trade, he moved the Marshon Brooks pick to the Nets to pick JuJaun Johnson, although the Cs could have really used an athletic, scoring wing to back up Ray Allen. (I see Brooks as a future 20 ppg scorer in the league.

Then he spent this FA signing period inking 9th man types like Dooling, Daniels, Wilcox and Pavlovic.  The Bass trade was an OK move, but not much more of a roster upgrade from BBD.

to write off ainge over the past 10 months in this fashion is glib and advances frustration as if it were an argument. we can do better on this board i think.

if we all write off the good moves by danny in a cavalier fashion, then by definition all that danny does is bad. this gets us no where near an interesting conversation.

just recently, for ainge....

bass was a good pick up
losing big baby was a good decision
wilcox was a good pick up
marquis was a good pick up (maybe even great as we look at green's situation now)
dooling was a good pick up

ainge built a good and deep bench, unfortunately green is who would have pushed the bench into the realm of very strong.

no one, no one, no one could have foreseen green's heart condition. if green were healthy the celtics bench would be deep and strong. i dont blame ainge for the bench now, i praise him for it.

also, no matter what we think, ainge cannot simply snap his fingers and have any available player come running. so many of the suggestions on trades/signings are fool's gold. many of the players discussed on this board are marginal, beyond celtics' reach, or are mediocre and a multi-year signing would put the celtics in that hell known as "one and done" playoff team - at best.

the two biggest disappointments recently, i do not blame ainge for.

david west - if not for the nba holding up the cp3 trade (and i give stern credit for playing hardball there) west would be a celtic. ainge cannot be blamed for that.

cp3? please look at what stern did to LAC in the trade. the celtics never had a chance of matching what LAC gave up. i dont blame danny for trying, i am glad he took a shot at getting cp3.

also, ainge built a good bench AND he positioned the team for next year's off season by making sure the team has a lot of money to invest in one, maybe two, stars.

as i look at the other franchises over the past 4 years, boston is only one of 3 teams to win a championship...and with a bit more luck and less injuries, they probably would have won 1 or 2 more of those.

ainge isnt perfect and i am more than happy to discuss his mistakes. ultimately, he is a GM, which all other teams have as well. however, he is one of the better GMs, and that is the belief of many in the NBA, not just on cb. he is widely respected through out the league.

so, if we all paint ainge's actions in hyperbolic fashion, the discussions we stage are neither interesting nor accurate.

i am not climbing on board any band wagon that plans to arrive at a destination called "let's vent frustration at ainge by ignoring all the positives he has done."

oh yeah....good luck to green. i hope he is well and lives long regardless of the celtics.

but.....i would also welcome some informed discussions on how this affects the celtics. these two points are not incompatible.

Of Ainge's three main acquisitions in the offseason, I think Bass will be the best player and a slight upgrade over BBD because of his athleticism. Wilcox is a journeyman who really doesn't play defense and has spent a lot of time on the bench the past two years, and Dooling is an adequate replacement for Delonte. I am not criticizing Danny for these moves, because he was highly limited in what he could do. He brought us a championship, but in doing so, put himself in the situation we are in today. That is okay. Now we will really see what he is made of when the rebuilding begins, which I believe could be as early as this season's trading deadline.

I am not going to praise him for trying to make big deals and not succeeding. Trying is great, but getting it done is what he and everyone else gets paid for. Your boss isn't going to give you a big bonus for trying.

Glad they caught this issue with Green before he took the floor. His health is the only thing that matters now. We can win another year as far as I'm concerned.

This hurts. But ya get well JG.
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.
