So do I. Ainge has done an excellent job the last 10 months or so
I think he's done a lousy job the past 10 months. Besides the Perk trade, he moved the Marshon Brooks pick to the Nets to pick JuJaun Johnson, although the Cs could have really used an athletic, scoring wing to back up Ray Allen. (I see Brooks as a future 20 ppg scorer in the league.
Then he spent this FA signing period inking 9th man types like Dooling, Daniels, Wilcox and Pavlovic. The Bass trade was an OK move, but not much more of a roster upgrade from BBD.
to write off ainge over the past 10 months in this fashion is glib and advances frustration as if it were an argument. we can do better on this board i think.
if we all write off the good moves by danny in a cavalier fashion, then by definition all that danny does is bad. this gets us no where near an interesting conversation.
just recently, for ainge....
bass was a good pick up
losing big baby was a good decision
wilcox was a good pick up
marquis was a good pick up (maybe even great as we look at green's situation now)
dooling was a good pick up
ainge built a good and deep bench, unfortunately green is who would have pushed the bench into the realm of very strong.
no one, no one, no one could have foreseen green's heart condition. if green were healthy the celtics bench would be deep and strong. i dont blame ainge for the bench now, i praise him for it.
also, no matter what we think, ainge cannot simply snap his fingers and have any available player come running. so many of the suggestions on trades/signings are fool's gold. many of the players discussed on this board are marginal, beyond celtics' reach, or are mediocre and a multi-year signing would put the celtics in that hell known as "one and done" playoff team - at best.
the two biggest disappointments recently, i do not blame ainge for.
david west - if not for the nba holding up the cp3 trade (and i give stern credit for playing hardball there) west would be a celtic. ainge cannot be blamed for that.
cp3? please look at what stern did to LAC in the trade. the celtics never had a chance of matching what LAC gave up. i dont blame danny for trying, i am glad he took a shot at getting cp3.
also, ainge built a good bench AND he positioned the team for next year's off season by making sure the team has a lot of money to invest in one, maybe two, stars.
as i look at the other franchises over the past 4 years, boston is only one of 3 teams to win a championship...and with a bit more luck and less injuries, they probably would have won 1 or 2 more of those.
ainge isnt perfect and i am more than happy to discuss his mistakes. ultimately, he is a GM, which all other teams have as well. however, he is one of the better GMs, and that is the belief of many in the NBA, not just on cb. he is widely respected through out the league.
so, if we all paint ainge's actions in hyperbolic fashion, the discussions we stage are neither interesting nor accurate.
i am not climbing on board any band wagon that plans to arrive at a destination called "let's vent frustration at ainge by ignoring all the positives he has done."
oh yeah....good luck to green. i hope he is well and lives long regardless of the celtics.
but.....i would also welcome some informed discussions on how this affects the celtics. these two points are not incompatible.
