Jeff Green will have surgery to repair his aorta and will miss the season.

The 25-year-old is expected to make a full recovery.

The medical issue arose when Green was taking a physical last week. He said the problem was found when he took a stress test.

Since then, he has seen a number of specialists, the last of which was in Cleveland at the Cleveland Clinic yesterday.

Because Green could not pass the physical, the free agent contract he signed with the Celtics will be voided.

Ha.  And we thought the trade sucked before...
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

I will say a prayer for Jeff Green for a healthy and quick recovery and hope he is in the best hands. Get better Jeff.

You know, I predicted he wouldn't play a single game for the Celtics this year. If I was going to be right, this isn't the way I would have wanted to be.

How is it possible that over a 25 year period one NBA team could have 3 tremendously young athletes with bad hearts?

Wow.

Very sad news.  What are the odds that the Cs would have three players with serious heart issues and all three happen to be from the Baltimore area, with Jeff Green and Len Bias from the same area and high school?

Unbelievable.

Best of luck to Jeff, thats going to be a grueling process.  In terms of basketball and moving forward we officially have nothing to show for the Perkins trade (karma if you ask me - you never put business in front of family and thats the way we treated Perk) and without any additional cap room because were already over the tax threshold we cannot make any impact signings.  Hate to say it but this season might have just taken a huge hit and our chances right along with it.
The NBA..where "this whole sport is a business and the referees decide games and David Stern is a snake and is only in this for the money" happens.

we do have something to show for the Perkins trade, the clippers 2012 1st round pick, which is better than what we would have had now if we hadn't made the trade, which is nothing, because Perkins would have signed with another team anyway.

So, with his contract now voided, do we lose his bird rights?

Strawman argument.  We were not going to 'get nothing' for Perkins.  He would have gone somewhere in a sign and trade.  Hell, maybe to Dallas for that trade exception and a first rounder.  Maybe more.  Don't think Dallas coulda used him after losing Chandler?  Whatever the case was, some team over the cap would've wanted Perkins and offered pieces for him.

Even if the Celtics got nothing for Perkins after leaving for free agency (unlikely), the Celtics threw away the 2011 season last year after being Vegas' favorites to win the title in mid-March.

How do you know that Perkins wouldn't have re-signed here?

If he was going to sign elsewhere, how do you know that Ainge couldn't have flipped him for a player and a pick as good as what the Clippers 2012 pick is going to be (20 or so).

With this news, which no one could have seen as coming, the Perkins trade is an unmitigated disaster.  the only way that changes is if the pick becomes a starter, and even then, I'd rather have a defensive minded center who fits in perfectly with the Big 4, than a future starter.

Devastating, for both parties. It might be time to declare the big 3 era over. My prayers go out to Jeff and his family... Hope to see you in Green next season
