Dang, that sucks.

I'll still probably be getting it.  :o I'm a junkie.

Same here.  $170 bucks for 2-3 hours of highly enjoyable entertainment on demand almost every day for 5 months?  Sign me up.
I agree, as a fan and of course since I'm not in the New England area it's a must get for me. I look at it like how much would I have spend if I were in the area attending actual games -- in comparison to the price it's a no brainer.

Now hopefully there are some Preseason games that will be aired, do they usually air any preseason games? I think I remember them airing some
Its free till January 8th this year, I think as part of the free trial period they show preseason games.

31 Celtics games are on national TV this year, so 35 games for the package. That works out to $4.83 per Celtic game.

I know they usually do run this, but curious was this actually posted somewhere from the NBA? Or is it a trial offered by your cable company?

So, I just called Bright House (again) and they said they aren't offering the service yet b/c the NBA hasn't given them the pricing and go ahead yet. They said that they don't set the price, the NBA does (idiots). I said other companies are offering it already at the usual price... they said, they should have it soon, maybe the end of this week (it pretty much is already) or early next week. I don't care when, as long as I don't miss anything! I'm ticked the price (from you guys) is going to be the same, it's a shame! However, I have had this package for many years, I can't go w/o it (even though I can get every game free online easily lol)!!! I would boycott but I'm weak in spirit against my sports providers. Anyway, 170 isn't bad at all... the problem is the amount of games you get compared to last season... don't rip people off NBA!!!
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

Well for anybody wondering, is the full price of 169$

 >:(

According to the New York Times, full price last season was $189?

Quote
NBA League Pass for television cost $189 last year. This year, fans will buy the same service for $169, 10.6 percent less than last year. They will also get access to the same programming on NBA.com and on their mobile phones for no additional charge.

Fans who bought all those services last season paid $239, or $70 more than this year.

100% price for 80% of the games?  Classy move on the NBA's part.

yeah . . . great way to win fans back.

also couldn't help noticing that the "choice" feature is only 5 teams instead of 7.

They are trying to make you think youre saving the early bird which is when most people get it as soon as its available is usually 169

Just received the email from the NBA offering the new league pass...this was my response:

"Dear David Stern,
I REFUSE to pay FULL price for a league pass that only shows me PART of the season.  It is clear that the NBA doesn't care about it's fans.

Disgruntled former NBA fan"

The signature was really just to make it more dramatic, but if enough people complain...well...you never know.

Called DirecTV... Said "cancel" to voice prompt twice. Talked to the lady and said if price isn't lowered I will cancel. She told me she couldn't take money off the package but did give me $10 dollars off my bill for every month I pay for it. So I'm getting the package for $99!!

Call these people up and work with them. $99 for the package is well worth it IMO.

Yeah...sounds good for you!  I plan on doing the same today.  I've purchased multiple sports packages in the past and I'm firm on canceling if they won't work with me.  My goal was to get it down to $99 as well, and if they won't I'm not going to be watching NBA basketball outside of my local market (Orlando Magic) and games on TNT/NBC/NBA Network.  Besides, the way the Celtics sleep walk through the season, they're not worth watching all the time until they "flip the switch on" when the playoffs arrive. :)

so annoying that they don't run classic games on this service.

I don't know if anyone remembers, but League Pass used to provide a classic games section, where you could watch the Wolves vs Lakers (KG vs Shaq and Kobe), and other classic match up games.
Now we have to wait till the start of the season.
I mean they could at least show the 2011 finals or playoffs or something.
Even some NBA TV docos would be good.
I can't believe the balls of the NBA to stiff us like this.
Less games, more $$$ and they haven't improved the service one bit. It's like they never listen to positive input at all.
I'm really p---ed.
And by the way, if you want 15% off your subscription, use the code: RETSUB2011

slimey, greedy NBA pricks.
I have no choice but to buy it but their laziness never astounds me.
The NBA is **** considering the video catalogue they have. They could be playing way more games on NBA TV and League pass in the off-season but choose not to do it. I guess old Jordan Game 6s are all we need to see.

I'd consider league pass but since I'm going back to New England soon I won't need it.
Signed to a 6 year $0 contract with the Celtics Blog forum!

The NY Times just ran this apologist story defending the NBA and it's pricing on League Pass....

Quote
NBA League Pass Fans Think They’re Paying More for Less
By KEN BELSON

Thanks to the N.B.A. lockout, the regular season is 20 percent shorter this season. As part of the new collective bargaining agreement, the players are taking a 12 percent pay cut. And fans who buy NBA League Pass, which lets them watch nearly every game on television, the Internet and their mobile phones, will pay at least 7 percent less.

The only problem is that fans are unlikely to know they are saving that much because the Web site advertising the service, nba.com/leaguepass, does not mention any discount or, for that matter, any apology to fans for the inconvenience of missing 16 regular-season games.

As a result, fans have taken to Twitter to accuse the league — mistakenly, it turns out, — of not discounting their service to offset the loss of 16 games. “I’d love to pay full price for 80% of this sandwich please,” wrote a person with the Twitter handle @pdxlex.

This is kinda funny...  I just got off the phone with DirecTv.  Told the lady (who was VERY polite) that I was going to cancel my League Pass subscription this year.  Explained that the season has been reduced (of which she was *aware* of) but that the price didn't significantly decrease (of which she agreed).

- she offered me $5 off for the 6 months of payments.  I politely refused.

- she then reviewed my history, seeing that I'm a 4 year subscriber and that we've always paid our bill on time, and that I've subscribed to other sports packages in the past.

- she then noticed I was on "AUTO-PAY" and told me to hold on a second.  She came back and countered with an offer I couldn't refuse: 24 months of FREE HD access - which is a $10 a month fee.  So over the next 2 years I'm getting a reduction in my bill of $240.

So, I'm getting NBA League Pass basically for free (early bird price of $159 - 6 payments of $26.50).  When you do the math I came out ahead by $81 just for calling.

A happy DirecTv subscriber who got a great deal today just by picking up the phone, knowing a few facts, paying my bill, and being polite. :)
