With West and Bass now on board there is simply not enough mins at the PF position. Plus if JO is included in the trade the c's will have no centers and only the vet min and mini mle to sign centers, Can KG get away with playing center at this point in his career? There aren't really any big bruising centers in the eat besides Dwight , so I think they could get away with it for 15-20 mins a night.

Thoughts?

I just brought up my thread on starting Bass.

In it I describe how KG is center size, and that more importantly, playing him at the 5 gives the C's the best chance to utilize their talent.

If the C's could close out games with Posey or Baby playing 4/5 with KG, West/KG should be even better.

Starting KG at center isn't ideal, but there are very few centers that have both the size and the offensive games to give him much trouble.  He's significantly better at PF, but I think we'll be fine defensively against most teams.

PFs don't exactly have it easy in the league either.

Rest and minute rationing are more important than position.

Or we could have 2 elite PFs who essentially split the minutes, giving KG controlled minutes keeping him fresh, and West controlled minutes to monitor his knee...a PF lineup that dominates the entire game without tiring =).

In an ideal world no, KG is finesse player. The pounding he will take as a center could cut his career short. But I guess this was inevitable. He avoided the move for 16 years. KG has to make the transition to Center now. Brace yourselves fellas this could get ugly

Yes, Howard and a few others will give KG trouble. But he will still likely fair better than you average scrub we would start at the  5 for the sake of size. He will obviously bust his butt defensively and spread the floor offensively.

Keep in mind, even though KG would have to guard Howard, Howard would also have to guard KG. And pulling him out 20 feet would likely be a net gain.

  • Rondo = Good
against the banger centers like howard, marc gasol etc west or bass could switch over to cover them.  a west / KG frontcourt will be able to make it work with most matchups, i think.

against the teams we have to fear most (read: heat, knicks, bulls), we don't have to worry about any real bruisers or major scorers at the center position.  KG can cover Noah / Chandler / Amare / Bosh.  West can handle heavier guys like Boozer.

It's not going to get the Celtics any votes in the CB Draft, that's for sure.

I know it's a big "if", but if Eddie Curry is in shape, he's a serious banger and offensive threat in the post for the heat.

Very true. I like kg at center in spurts but not predominately at center. I don't think west can play center either. We still have the mini mle though so don't rule out kwame brown yet.

I don't care if KG only plays the first and last 5 minutes of the game. Put Bass, Johnson, West, Wilcox, and this Stiemsma kid in there for all the other minutes, then pump him up in the Playoffs.

KG was playing center with Glen Davis, and if they thought Glen could play center... then i'm sure David West can.

BBD has a lot more bulk than Bass IMO. He was actually very good at low post defense because opposing centers like Dwight Howard couldn't back him down, I am not sure that's the case with Bass or West.
