1. Why is Houston being asked to throw in more chips, not the Lakers?

2. Why didn't the Hornets GM approach other potential trade partners (e.g. Boston) to see if they could improve the pot?  Wasn't Stern's major objection that the Hornets did not get good young talent in the deal? Is not Rondo (or Curry) young talent?  I can't believe adding hte Knicks' no.1 pick (which should not have much value) is considered young talent? The chances of that pick panning out as well as someone like Rondo are astronomically small.

What gives?

If the owners/Stern vetoed the original trade because NOH wasn't getting enough so that the market value of the team be maximized beacause the NBA owns it, now they are getting more.

I guess it doesn't matter if the more comes from Houston or Fakers. While it's not an equitable trade, the NOH (and hence the league that owns them) gets their pound of flesh, despite the Fakers giving up the least and Houston the most.

In the latest details available to Yahoo! Sports, sources say that New Orleans would send the Lakers Paul, and possibly two Hornets free agents – center Jason Smith and Marcus Banks – would be sent to the Lakers in sign-and-trade agreements.

The Rockets would send Kevin Martin, Luis Scola, a 2012 first-round pick and possibly young players or additional picks to the Hornets.

The Lakers would send Lamar Odom to the Hornets, Pau Gasol to the Rockets and league sources say that Los Angeles was pursuing a first-round pick to send to the Hornets.

“It’s in David Stern’s hands now,” one source said. “He’ll decide on the trade.”

How on earth is that better than the last deal?  Patrick Patterson would make it very slightly better, but it's basically the exact same thing.

Sounds like they're trying to tweak it slightly and hope Stern isn't willing to take the fallout from vetoing it again.

I hope the owners keep forcing a veto until they include Bynum in the deal.

So now LA is getting three players and only sending out two? I realize that Houston is part of the deal obviously but they are just pawns in this.

It'd be funny if Stern looks at this and just laughs and send them an e mail just saying "stop drinking and submit a real deal to me. Oh and FYI young players means under 30."

I read this, scratched my head, and thought, hmmmm, so now the Lakers also get Marcus Banks and Houston has to give up another draft pick.... huh?
I mean, more or less the exact same thing with a bit of tinkering at the edges. I know that's what everyone else here is saying, but... it bears repeating.  The teams are basically calling Stern's bluff. I'm interested to see his reaction: chump or not? I'm guessing the former.

Is it just me or does it seems like things are just too slanted in favor of the Lakers in this?

I agree that Lakers have got to cough up at least Bynum and Gasol.  Houston is just getting hosed on this deal.  Scola and Martin alone are plenty for Gasol.

If Lakers can be forced into moving Bynum and Gasol to get this through instead of using Odom, I see the Lakers taking a big step backwards even with the acquisition of CP3.

The Lakers, in their attempts to get young talent to send to New Orleans so the NBA will approve their acquisition of Chris Paul, came knocking at the Warriors door. Dangling Gasol. In return, they wanted “the entire team” one source said. The package the Lakers wanted was centered around point guard Stephen Curry (not sure who else, but I’m guessing Ekpe Udoh, Klay Thompson and maybe even Dorell Wright based on how laughable the source viewed the Lakers’ offer). Curry, presumably, would wind up with the Hornets.

The Warriors aren’t interested. At all.

I think this is probably why we haven't heard anything official. They are going to go to the NBA and get their approval before they report any deal that has been struck. That is probably why we haven't heard of the trade going through just yet.

The Lakers are trying their best to keep Bynum. I hope nobody else bites the Gasol bait.

Also, since the Lakers are shopping Gasol to acquire younger players, it means the re-worked deal too wasn't accepted and Stern quietly asked them to go back to the drawing board.
