Interesting that the original version of the trade didn't work on the trade machine.

On the other hand, the Hornets are picking up +11 wins with the revised trade, so it must be good for them, right?  ;D

Well, at least Hollinger's computers and I agree that the trade will be horrible for Houston.  John Hollinger himself, however, seems to believe that Houston is a big winner.  Probably because he has to believe that to justify this trade, which benefits his Lakers.
He's assuming that they'll get Nene in his analysis.

no way that happens unless nene really wants to play in houston.  he'll have to take less money than he'd get elsewhere.
No he won't they can amnesty Thabeet and decline some options. They'll have enough cap room to offer him the max.

Do you think that committing $57 million over three years to Pau Gasol (31 1/2 years old) and $70+ million over four years to Nene (29 years old) is a wise move for Houston, especially in this era of less flexibility for luxury tax teams?

That's over 60% of your cap to two guys entering the latter stages of their career.  I'm not sure what Boy Wonder Morey is thinking.

Looks like Kahn will have some competition after all.

yeah, if that's the move, i have to think daryl morey is outsmarting himself on this one, or at least that he's facing a lot of pressure from ownership to be a playoff team right away instead of remaining conservative until they can find a deal to put them in contention.

no team with nene / gasol as the main guys is going to contend for a title.  especially with no true wing scorer.

How about:

Paul, Okafor, Pavlovic to lakers

Scola to C's

Pau to Houston

Martin, Odom, Dragic, JO, Caracter, Ebanks, Knicks pick, Clips pick, JJ or Bradley to NO.

CP
KObe
Meta
JO
Bynum

Rondo
Allen
Pierce
KG
Scola

Jack
Martin
Ariza
Odom
Okafor
Picks!

Houston gets Pau.

Essentially it's the original trade but LA has to take back Okafor's deal to free up money for NO and NO trades Scola for JO, Pavlovic, clips pick, JJ or Bradley or something, getting more youth and less long term money.

Seems to me that only way this deal could be revised is to put Bynum in for Odom and send Okafor back to Lakers.

have to agree with Hollinger.  really hoping he's right.

If that's the case, then I can justify it for New Orleans.  Of course, that would require LA to make a bad deal, and I don't think they will, even for a superstar.

Yeah this would make more sense although I'm sure the Lakers would much rather give up Odom.

Advanced stats love Nene and Gasol I know that. My guess is that they rate out as top 5 big men to the Houston GM.

He's taking his stab to win now finally, he wasn't going to survive being just out of the playoffs any longer.

I don't think it will work, but that's his plan.

If they're getting Bynum the deal makes sense for NoH, getting a young guy who wants to star on a team whom you can control a year longer is better than nothing.

yeah, my guess is that both Morey and Demps are feeling pressured to make the playoffs this year.  thats the only way the deal makes sense for either team.

Hill, Caracter, and Ebanks...  these are the type of young players with potential Stern was talking about, right?

(If true, Hornets would be taking on around $7.3 million in salary, rather than $3.7.  Well done.)

NenĂª can't create his shots unless he's able to post up really deep. 1/4 of his shots are off-the-ball cuts. He's a great finisher, but can't create shots. Can't face up or shoot and if you dump the ball to him in the midpost he'll do nothing. Sure he'll score efficiently, but he won't use more than 20% of the possessions. This sort of scorer is very valuable, but you need 2 better scorers than him to have a good team.

Plus an okay but far from great and somewhat inconsistent defender and mediocre rebounder. 29 years old.

How is a guy like this worth the kind of money teams are offering him? How is Houston going to rely on him to make a difference for them?

Absolutely bizarre. Most overrated FA of the year. Decade maybe.
