The Magic waived our old friend Gabe Pruitt tonight.  Their roster is now at 15 players.  Gabe never got off the bench in their two pre-season games.

Gabe Pruitt latched on to the Magic this season. I doubt he'll make it to the final roster though.

Not surprised at all. ;)

A deeper Clippers bench may help us land that draft pick.

I don't think there's any way (barring injury) the Clippers finish in the bottom 10 teams, bench or no bench.  I think the pick will be closer to 30th than it will be to 11th.  I'll be glad if I'm wrong, though.

It's looking like that Clips pick is going to be around #25 in the draft. Bah!

It might be a bit better than that.  They signed Evans because their best big off the bench before that was Brian Cook.  Even with Evans, the Clips are a fairly small team other than DeAndre Jordan, I do not think Chauncey can really handle two guards on a regular basis and their bench is basically going to live and die with Mo Williams.  It's not going to take a lot for that pick to be around #20.

I would be very surprised if the Clips don't trade away Williams and probably Foye too to address their other needs.

I hope you're right about the pick though (even though I like this Clips team and wish them success) because if all the players come out and projections prove accurate, players the caliber of Austin Rivers could be available around 20.

Not a signing but I couldn't think of an appropriate thread to post this in:

Dwight Howard just threw up in his mouth a little as he heard this and realized he will definitely be in Orlando until the trade deadline now.

The Bobcats have decided not to match the Grizzlies' three-year offer to Dante Cunningham. Hollins plans to use him to back up both the SF and PF positions.

In a surprise move, the Heat freed Eddie House...

He was waived, and the Heat kept Curry, as well as two young players: Terrel Harris and Mickell Gladness.  Read they want to develop Harris (who had a great pre-season) which might allow them to amnesty a player next season.

Sorry, for those wanting to re-up Eddie here, I really like Dooling and the promise of Moore.  No thanks...

Decent replacement for Arthur.  Can hit the mid-range jumper, pretty quick defensively.

I don't think you cut Dooling or Moore. You get rid of Bradley. Bradley is way better on D but Eddie gives you way more on O. If you wanted to go small you could put Eddie and Dooling in together with Dooling running the point and Eddie playing the two on O but swithcing D-fensive duties.

When do teams have to get down to a 15 man roster? Is it still opening night of the season?

Or are they giving teams a bit longer to figure things out due to the shortened training camp?

I believe all teams still have to be below 15 at the start of the season.  The only rule I've heard to adjust for the short off-season is that teams will be allowed to keep 13 players on their active rosters (instead of 12) until some time in February.

Another rule I came across was -- They are giving teams until January 25th to reach a contract extension with players coming off their rookie scale contracts versus October 31st in normal years.

I imagine due to the packed free agency period which would have made negotiations difficult. So many other tasks to accomplish at the same time.

That is part of why I was wondering if any extra allowance was going to be given for rosters sizes. Probably not though. Not important enough.
