Not understanding all the excitement about this trade, or even people thinking bass is a better player
baby had his ups and downs and played horrible in last years playoffs, but he had clutch moments for us too..
Bass is a scrub
If he's a scrub, so is Glen Davis.

I disagree that they're both scrubs, but I can understand that point of view.

Not true.  Bass is a solid energy player off the bench who is a better rebounder than BBD

this just seems like a lateral move to me. It's pretty much apples for apples. Too bad we couldn't pull off a Baby for Thad Young.

bass is a LEGIT PF..while baby was so undersized...bass is a much better finisher and shooter without baby's ego. upgrade IMO
Bass is smaller than Davis. He measured at 6'6.25 barefoot 6'7.25 with shoes on. And an 8'10 standing reach, which doesn't make him appear to be able to play particularly bigger than his size.
I was suprised to see that yahoo profiles listed bass as shorter than davis.  I remembered Bass appearing taller.

Bass is a black hole. Shoots it all the time. He will be a good backup though. Wouldn't want to see him run with the starters with that selfish mentality, but I do like him off the bench.
Doesn't sound all that different than Glen Davis, Davis is a better passer when he tries however.

yep..we watch davis take jump shot after jump shot last year
Yeah, if Glen Davis' name was Glen Bass, we'd probably call him "no pass Bass" as well.  So no problem there with me.  Similar player, different attitude.  I'm on board with this trade.

They seem like pretty similar players to me.

with that said, Bass may learn more from Garnett than Baby was able to

Orlando's taste in big men does not bode well for the inevitable Howard trade.
Otis Smith is just an idiot. I can't believe they are going to keep the man who ran Dwight Howard out of Orlando and let him shape Orlando's future.

When are they going to fire this guy?

Someone on the forums made a good point about salaries: Davis probably wants $6-7M per, but Bass is due only $4.25M, so Orlando would have to throw in someone else to make the trade work. Looking at the Magic's roster, two guys make sense for Boston: Ryan Anderson and Daniel Orton. Anderson is a 6-10, 240-pound PF, only 23, averaged 10.6 points and 5.5 rebounds last year, and is due only $2.2M. Orton is a 6-10, 255-pound PF, only 21, played in the D-League last season, and due only $1.1M. Thoughts?

If we could get Anderson too that would be awesome. If he is the same guy I'm thinking of, I love his energy and effort!

Bass is more like Powe only without the injury history. Still need Chris Wilcox or someone bigger @ center. Wilcox is listed as 6-10 and can play both positions; but is not going to strike fear in the hearts of the opposing team.

I've only seen Bass a handful of times.  I remember he had a great game against us recently, hitting that 15-footer and then driving by our bigs every time they came out to contest. His offensive efficiency is a few tiers above Baby's.

Anyone have a scouting report on his defensive ability/tendencies?

Not the smartest player in the world. Struggles with systems. That is why he couldn't get off the bench in New Orleans and why SVG played him so little his first year in Orlando (650 minutes vs 1500 the year prior and 2000 the year after). An issue on both ends of the floor but more so defensively than offensively. Will likely struggle to adapt to Doc's defensive system.

That said, Bass has a far greater range than BBD on both ends of the court. He is much quicker and more athletic. Can cover more ground defensively and defends the PnR better (quickness shows there more than 1v1). He, like BBD, lacks the size to be a starting PF (matches up poorly against guys like Boozer and Z-Bo) but he is a darn fine backup PF defensively. A decent but below average rebounder.

Offensively, a very good midrange and low two point jump shooter. Far superior to BBD. Also a solid finisher at the rim and an excellent FT shooter. A little better off the dribble too. Like BBD, Bass struggles to discern which shots he should take and which shots he shouldn't take. Orlando experienced similar problems with Bass settling for those long twos instead of looking for better options. Just like Boston did with Davis. Non-passer.

Bass is a very solid two way backup PF.

I haven't so anxiously awaited confirmation of a Celtics' deal since the KG trade.

I need to see this confirmed on ESPN.

You can trade salary for 150% now.

I know one of the proposals was that the 150% only applies to teams under the tax.  I'm not sure what exactly is in the new CBA.

Bass able to play spot minutes at Center? If not, then I'm less of a fan.
Dallas used Bass quite extensively alongside Dirk Nowitzki.

They were interchangeable on defensive assignments. Sometimes Bass would be asked to cover quicker forwards. Other times, he'd be asked to body up bigger centers (albeit not as well as BBD). He did a valiant job.

Playing Bass at center is not an ideal option but it'll do if you are stuck (in the same way, C.Hayes at C or Big Baby at C, are not ideal but serviceable).

You can trade salary for 150% now.

So 4.25 * 1.5 = 6.375 million

So unless his first year salary is more than that it works.

Gracias.
