I don't think Rondo, or anyone other player linked to New Orleans over the past few days, is a big enough star to markedly change the price of the team. There only a handful of guys in the league who are capable of doing that and nobody is offering any one of them for C.Paul.
I also fail to see how keeping C.Paul so that he can leave in 7-8 months time for nothing in return is in the Hornets best interests. Both competitively and/or in terms of selling the team.
I think the owners, as a whole, (1) just didn't like the trade package and didn't think it was fair value for Chris Paul ... which it's not.
But you are not going to get fair value for Chris Paul. You are going to get cents on the dime.
And, (2) more importantly, are being petty. They don't want to see the Lakers get another big name and build another title contender. They want to doing whatever they can to stop that.
