Gotta think it's a trade that puts Chandler in NY. Something like below.

Turiaf and Billups to Dallas (both on last year of deal)
for
Barea and Chandler (Both S+T)
No they can gain enough cap room by using amnesty on Billups along with letting some players go.

They got to find people to take those guys. Ill be shocked if Dallas doesn't get Billups. It's too logical.

I agree - why pay both Billups and Chandler when you can just pay Chandler?  Even the Knicks aren't going to just burn $14 million if there's another way to get the same guy.

Chandler probably gets more money, Dallas gets a veteran PG to split time with Kidd, if Barea's involved NY gets at least a short-term replacement at PG...seems like the path of least resistance for this to happen for sure.

EDIT:  And there'd be 0 chance Billups will go to the Heat in this scenario - should be appealing to NY too.

Nice idea. Suits everyone's needs

Gives Dallas some short term reinforcements (and possible trade bait) while giving New York the defensive presence and temporary solution at PG that they desperately need.

Brendan Haywood can take over the starting C duties and Ronny Turiaf can slot in nicely at backup C. If Dallas wished, They could start Chauncey Billups in the backcourt alongside Jason Kidd.

Yeah, I think this makes sense.  It gives the Mavs a viable backup center and another PG, while preserving their cap room for a run at Deron Williams next summer.

If Houston is getting involved in a three way with the Lakers its because they would take Pau Gasol and play him at center  with Scola as the PF. Bynum is being saved for the Howard trade that the Lakers will be attempting.

As for who would end up in New Orleans from Houston, my guess is Kyle Lowry and Kevin Martin would be a start and any one or two of Jordan Hill, Patrick Patterson or Marcus Morris would probably as go well. Houston has Dragic that could take over the PG duties and they would still have money to sign a SG like Josh Howard or Marcus Thornton.

Rumor: Tyson Chandler expected to sign with the Knicks

Multiple reports that Tyson Chandler to the Knicks is in the works. Either through a S&T with Dallas or as an F.A. signing which would require that Billups be released via the new amnesty clause.

Marc Stein:

New York is Tyson's first choice. It's 98 percent sure that Tyson is going to wind up with the Knicks.

Ken Berger:

Can confirm that one scenario in Chandler deal has Billups being traded. Amnesty also a possibility.

Adrian Wojnarowski:

The New York Knicks are nearing a four-year, $58 million contract with Tyson Chandler after the Golden State Warriors conceded they’re no longer in the running to sign the free-agent center.

Let's say that Baron Davis is amnestied and makes it through waivers.  Does he then sign with Miami or New York?

No CP3 and no Howard for NY.

This also increases CP3's trade value, because it limits his options next summer.

I hope it happens.  And yes, if they amnestied Chauncey and moved Turiaf's expiring contract, they'd have cap space to sign him.  Intriguing.

Can't they just trade Amare for Paul? I would -- Paul, Anthony, Chandler, fill in the rest. Not that I would if i were the Hornets, but maybe with a number of picks, etc...

I wouldn't.  Finding a dominant low post scorer is one of the toughest things to do in the NBA.  The Knicks have Amare; they shouldn't trade him.  Rather, they should find a stop-gap this year, and then sign Steve Nash next season.

Just spoke to Andy Miller, agent for Chauncey Billups, who describes his client as "irate" over possibility of Knicks using amnesty on him.

Quote
Agent Miller on Billups: "He has no intention of being open-minded about any possible situation where a team would claim him off waivers.."

Quote
More agent Andy Miller on Knicks exposing Billups to amnesty waiver wire: "....unless it's a team he chooses himself. Buyer beware."

Is there any way to widen the deal and include David West in the trade?

Something like -- Chris Paul and David West for Amare and filler (Balkman, Douglas, whoever else).

That would give them:

PG - Chris Paul
SG - Landry Fields (Paul is perfect for him)
SF - Carmelo Anthony
PF - David West
C  - Tyson Chandler

That starting five is definitely a full fledged title contender.

A defensive specialist going to a D'Antoni team? What a waste...

Does anyone else see this as the Rockets trying to be the Bucks from the 80s? How old would Gasol be before they could get enough pieces to contend around him?

How much cap space do Houston have next summer?

With Tyson Chandler on the verge of signing w/NY, Miami is looking into ways of acquiring Chauncey Billups, league sources tell SI.

Heat in a tough spot financially but sources say the team is hoping that if amnestied Billups will push to play in Miami.
