I hear they really like Shumpert, and Douglas is decent to play pg. As far as who's comment about another above average starter, didn't they just sign Grant Hill?
Shumpert looks a very impressive prospect at SG. Not convinced he can play the point though.

The report said they were close to signing Hill but nothing has been agreed to yet.

Yeah he's "leaning" towards the Knicks but he's down to like 4 teams I think.

I think Douglas would be decent enough at the pg spot for now. Might not be amazing but they would be very very good potentially.

I don't think they would have enough room for Barea but I guess that depends on what he wants and what they give Chandler.

I also read that the GSW didn't offer him 5 years 60 million. It was less than that says Ken Berger.

I fear Billups will go to the Heat if he is amnestied. :-\

yup, i have to imagine that's where he'd end up, unless some team actually wants to take on the last year of his contract.

Or worse if he goes to the Lakers. >:(

good point, i forgot about the lakers.  billups would be a nice consolation for the lakers if they can't get cp3.

Douglas
Fields
Melo/Hill
Amare
Chandler

Fascinating team.  I like Fields and Chandler's defensive/rebounding skill-sets to complement their offensive stars.  Gaping hole at PG and no bench outside of Hill but they'd be fun to watch.

Excellent defense/rebounding.

No passing whatsoever. All isolation, all the time. Very little else to offer offensively.

The Knicks or the Heat?  ;D

Just to clarify I'm referring mostly to "all isolation, all the time".

I think Toney douglas is way more capable than some give him credit for.  toney, melo, fields, amare, and chandler is a great lineup.  They have more than enough scoring, and strong defense on the point, wing and post.

Yeah you just gotta hope that last year's playoff loss to the Celts was a big learning point for Fields as he really crapped his pants that series.  Chandler is an especially huge addition if they stick with Douglas at the point as his oley-style defense won't cost his team as much as it did last year.

Would New York have enough cap space to sign JJ Barea?

He'd be a nice (role player) playmaking PG for that team and system.

This is what I have been thinking.  And there are two scenarios.  First, could they work him into the sign and trade?

Second, if they can do a sign and trade with Billups, rather than Amnesty him, it would allow them to still use the full MLE and the LLE this year.  Which would put them in the running for Barea.

Oh, they would have that $2.5 million exception for teams who are below the cap and spend all of their cap space.

Teams in that situation get a $2.5 million exception to sign an additional player right?

I don't know what the name of the exception is called.

Here we go, this is what I was talking about

http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/page/CBA-111128/how-new-nba-deal-compares-last-one

Quote
Midlevel exception

• 2005 CBA: Five years starting at the average salary ($5.765 million in 2010-11), with 8 percent raises.

• 2011 CBA: For non-taxpaying teams, four years starting at $5 million (base salary grows by 3 percent annually beginning in 2013-14), with 4.5 percent raises. Taxpaying teams are limited to three years, a $3 million base salary (which grows by 3 percent annually beginning in 2013-14) and 4.5 percent raises. Teams with cap room (therefore losing their midlevel exception) get a new midlevel that is for two years and starts at $2.5 million (growing 3 percent annually).

• Who benefits? Very few full midlevel contracts handed out under the 2005 CBA turned out to be good bargains in their later years. Reducing the size and length of the midlevel exception will help teams rid themselves of bad contracts.

The new exception for teams with cap room will benefit teams that clear cap room to sign free agents. For example, in the summer of 2010 Miami gutted its roster in order to obtain James and Bosh. This left the Heat with a small amount of cap room to sign players like Mike Miller. But once they reached the salary cap, they could offer only minimum-salary contracts. Under the new CBA, once they reach the cap, they could still offer one or more players a total of $2.5 million.

That could be enough to sign JJ Barea. Offer him a starting gig and 30+ minutes a night. He could parlay that into a larger contract offer in two years time.

Billups could also go to Indiana...

The real question is that with NY out of the way, is CP3 more willing to sign an extension in LA with the Clippers? If so then that pretty much eliminates us from the running.

He's not signing an extension anywhere, it'd cost him 30 million potentially.

I think Chandler going to NY would help us, removes NY as an option in FA and removes the lure of reuniting with Chandler.

Handshake agreement, that he would do the extension after the year when he opts out...

Gotta think it's a trade that puts Chandler in NY. Something like below.

Turiaf and Billups to Dallas (both on last year of deal)
for
Barea and Chandler (Both S+T)
