They could make it match just by including Bradley and a vet minimum guy sign and traded.

ok but if thats the cae then the hornets will likely want to add draft picks as well. I would rather keep 2012 draft picks than green, but New orleans probably wants the picks more than green

bos: rondo, bradley , vet min + clippers pick, maybe future pick

no: Paul

I could live with that , but like i said rather keep those picks

  • GOT IT!!!
thing is, do we really want to do this? are we so eager to ship Rondo out?

I mean, does Rondo have the same appeal to Dwight compare to CP3

i dont know, I don't want to do this trade unless it guarantees we get Dwight for sure in 2012

I think it gives the C's a better chance at getting Howard. C's won't have enough trade pieces to get Howard so he'd have to take less money. I find that unrealistic.

I'm just giddy about this. I really hope it happens. Not that I don't appreciate Rondo, but at the same time, I believe Paul to be the better immediate option, and the better option going forward. Getting Paul to me would be the single greatest sign of optimism for the future the Cs could snag this offseason.

The only thing I don't want is for this to hang over the roster all season. It needs to happen, or it doesn't.

I love Rondo but would trade him for Paul in a heartbeat.

CP3 could be the "Ray Allen" that brings Dwight Howard over next year. But if this deal doesn't push through, we better pray that Danny can convince Rondo that he was never on the trading block. Rondo's a very emotional guy and we all saw how he reacted when Perk was traded. And the memory of him playing all out with a dislocated elbow just makes this trade a lot harder to swallow.

Agree. Chris Paul has MVP potential..something Rondo will never be able to do. I love Rajon, but he's not on CP3's level. You generally need prime top 50 players of all time to win a title.

I agree with you, but I think we will be disappointed on that one -- I have a feeling the Hornets will take their time exploring every option and gathering all the offers they can.  They won't move CP3 without being absolutely certain they're getting the best return for him that they can.

Could the fact that the league owns the Hornets keep a deal from happening?

Sure but what's easier to sell? A team without rondo or Paul? Or a team without Paul but with rondo?

Just hope this couldn't block a trade like this.

Hornets shot down this offer right? Clippers are offering a much better package so I wouldn't get my hopes up for this.

Rondo is likely the best player on the market for him, but yes there could be better packages

I agree that Rondo is probably the best individual player that the Hornets are likely to get for Chris Paul, but as you say, there are likely better packages of overall talent.

A three team trade seems possible, but I haven't yet thought of a trade idea that struck me as really likely.

I still say the only way this works is if the Celtics take back Okafor as well.  He'd be an alright solution at center, but he's technically overpaid through 2014.  Dumping him is the best incentive for the Hornets to make a deal.  I'm not sure they want Okafor under contract when they sell the team.

Last year I'd say the trade would have been:  Rondo + Jeff Green + JO's contract + Kristic's contract for CP and Okafor.  http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=7o9ksuq  ... But I don't think that's possible anymore (Kristik would have to be sign-and-traded, right?)

And I guess the next year we'd cross our fingers that CP could convince Dwight Howard to demand a trade to Boston... and that the Hornets would take back the overpaid Okafor in a sign-and-trade deal.  HUGE leap right there.
