Celts get Paul

Grizz get bbd and boston's first, not the clippers pick

NO gets oj mayo and rajon rondo

I'd do this deal and not even ask for an extension. This improves our chances of contending immediately without adding any crap contracts. If Cp3 walks we don't have Rondo, but that just leaves Pierce as our only large contract on the books and we still hold on to the clips pick.

I think the Grizz would want at least the Clippers pick, not ours.

Perhaps send Green, BBD, and Clippers pick to the Grizz, Gay and Rondo to the Hornets, CP3 and Ariza or Okafor to the Celtics.

First, wouldn't we need to give back about 14M in salary to take on CP's 16M?  That means JO goes or S&T for BBD or JG.

If a max extension were offered to CP, wouldn't that put the C's in danger of being unable to offer a max FA salary after 2012?

What about not worrying about a CP extension -- worst case scenario is that CP leaves (for where? -- who will have cap room to sign him other than us or low quality teams?), but best case is that we sign DH to a max deal and then sign CP with Bird rights (that would apply, correct?).  CP, Dwight and Paul become the next Big 3 (or Big 5 if KG and RA stay for reasonable $$).

As long as okafor or ariza could still be amnestied then I can possibly see it, but if not I can't see it. This has all the makings of cp3 being to Howard what ray was to kg.

He was just on New England sports tonight and he said BBD wasn't part of the offer for Paul. If thats the case then wouldn't it have to be Green as the other piece ( along with picks)? Otherwise I can't think of any other players that would make the salaries match besides Jermaine O'Neal, but that would leave the c's without a center and JO wouldn't be attractive to NO IMO

So I am assuming the offer was

Bos sends: Rondo, Green, Bradley (possibly picks)

NO sends : Chris Paul, maybe s+t Arron Gray or lesser role player

I would be all for that trade if that is indeed what it would look like. What do you guys think?

I wonder if CP3 would ever have thought of coming to the Celtics and been open to it, but otherwise never did just at the thought its Rondo's team.

I don't know how any of this trade stuff works on paper, but If no big moves are made teams can always do stuff up until the trade deadline or something right?

That's a lot to give up for Paul imo, but if he signs a long term deal and we have cap space to go after Howard then I'm ik with it.

They could make it match just by including Bradley and a vet minimum guy sign and traded.

thing is, do we really want to do this? are we so eager to ship Rondo out?

I mean, does Rondo have the same appeal to Dwight compare to CP3

i dont know, I don't want to do this trade unless it guarantees we get Dwight for sure in 2012
