For all the talk about the Knicks, they have NO trade assets whatsoever. This would be a pretty great deal for both teams I think. I'll miss the hell out of Rondo though.

Seriously?  The Hornets want better young players than Rondo?

This is a 25 year old kid signed to a reasonable contract, who already has a championship ring and is a two-time all-star.

But hey, Hornets, feel free to turn it down, so that you can end up with a trade exception when Paul bolts town.

That was my first thought.  And then I realized I have spent the last couple of years hemming and hawing about rebuilding around Rondo.  So, I suppose its not surprising that NBA GMs see the same things I do.

He is a talented and electric player, and has a ton of value, but without the right pieces around him, I think he could be exposed.  So, I can see why a team might prefer different young players to rebuild around.

They want more then Rondo and you can't blame them at the moment. Oh man though.... CP3 with the Big 3?! We could win this year and then have arguably the best Dwight Howard recruiter in the world on our side.

I guess I'll be curious to see what they come up with, because I can't imagine any offer better than Rondo.

Maybe a 3-way with Cleveland?  They've seen first hand what he can do in the playoffs.  Ship off Kyrie Irving to New Orleans, figure out somehow to get Varejao in Boston for JO's expiring contract...

Yeah, kinda crazy.

Maybe they could get the Hawks in on the deal?  Hawks have weapons, but need a guy to run the offense.

Hawks get Rondo, Celtics get CP3, and Hornets get Jeff Teague, Marvin Williams, and Horford or Smith.

Then again, if that's all NO wanted, they could just trade straight up with the Hawks.

I imagine the Clippers pick would be involved as well.

Not to mention enough cap room for Paul

That's what confuses me the most about all the people who say that Paul will go to NY, it's a lock. How?  The Knicks have basically nothing to offer unless they trade Melo or Amare.

The thinking is that the Hornets would rather get anything at all for Paul than nothing, and if Paul pulls a Melo and basically says he won't sign an extension anywhere except for NY, the Hornets might trade him there.  I think you're right, though -- the Hornets have basically no valuable players other than Melo, Amare, and Billups (who is an expiring contract).

I wouldn't be surprised, though, if some team is willing to take a chance (a la the Nets with D. Will) that CP3 may not sign there and trade for him anyway.  First team that comes to mind is the Rockets.

well because if paul has his mind set on NY & it seems like he does he wont sign anycontract extenion anywhere else which will be the major sticking point to any deal ,no extension no deal if i had to guess cp3 will play his last fulls season as a hornet this season & go to NY next year as a FA after chauncey comes off the books
