Just read this on Bleacher Report (http://bleacherreport.com/articles/598289-nba-free-agents-2011-three-players-the-boston-celtics-should-avoid/page/4)

"With much respect to Big Baby I think the C's should either sign and trade him or just let him away. He has run his course and is way unmotivated to do what he does best, to be the energy guy. Now he's just a create my own offense. Doc should just trust and play Jajuan Johnson at this time. The kid can also hit midrange shots, like Davis does/ He can also be an energy guy plus he's longer, more athletic and defensive minded that Glen is right now.

A little suggestion. Phoenix is under cap. Snt BBD to PHX for Robin Lopez. Now Robin is not a sexy name but he's a legit Center who still has A TON of room to grow since he's still young. We all say that guys can learn from KG and the vets and the defensive minded coaching staff to play good D more, Robin can as well.He can back up JO and maybe start if JO gets injured, which will. Plus PHX has no legit PF. Markieff Morrisis a rookie and Channing Frye a little is unreliable and plays outside more, they can use BBD. Trade makes sense (in my opinion)."

Plus, the team is fairly young and Glen Davis has that experience. He gets to do more freelancing as the Suns are basically going to tank for at least a season.

Brook Lopez ≠ Robin Lopez.

Glen Davis ≠ Brook Lopez.

I would do a Davis for Robin Lopez trade.

Then, use the MLE to sign a FA PF to replace Davis.

I think it will be harder to find a useful C with the MLE then PF.

But, isn't Davis a FA?  Will a sign and trade even be possible?

The problem is, there is no way Phoenix would do that trade, unless we were throwing in at least a first rounder.  Robin may not be her sister Brook, but she is still a very good, young, 7 footer. They are not going to trade her for a guy like Davis...who they could just sign if they really wanted him.

I'd probably trade Davis for a bag of balls.

Agree that he doesn't seem mentally suited for his natural backup/energy role, and consequently is a perpetual headache.  As Doc said, if BBD doesn't know his role by now...and I'll add, if he can't or won't accept it...

But I don't think his value is as high around the league, either in a contract or a trade, than he thinks/wants it to be.  I don't think we'd get much for him without throwing in a pick to sweeten the deal.  ESPECIALLY for a legit 7-foot center.

I would do it because he has length and could defend.  I think he is a decent shot blocker.  Still his stats are not overwhelming by any means but I like his FG%.  Which mean he stays close to the basket where we need a big not chucking 15-17 footers. ( KG Excluded)

I do think his boards and blocks would go up with time.  But why would Phoenix want Baby?

I don't think Phx would touch this deal without the C's having to add something in that's more valuable than what Lopez brings to the table.

Lopez would provide a healthy center with limited skills.  It's a position of need for the C's but that's a lousy selling point to base a trade on.   BBD is a headache and has his flaws so I'm all for a S&T if we can get back some good value without having to add more into the deal

I'd also be all for it, but Phx being under the cap is a reason why they would not make this trade - they can just sign him in free agency.

Like others said, we'd have to throw it something that the Suns consider as valuable as Lopez in order to make this trade happen.

Only teams that are over the cap would be interested in a S&T for him.

BBD may be a black hole but I like him when he plays like he did in the beginning of the season... I would like to keep him if he agrees to be that player! I'm thinking BBD became worse when he was (other than Cagey) the only big who was healthy... he thought he could be the hero. I think by having JJ and adding other bigs BBD will have no choice but to be the BBD of early season. Also being a FA hurt him too, he tried too hard to prove he was the man... it backfired. Give him a contract and other bigs (who can produce), welcome back good ol BBD!

We'd see Baby shooting 3s in no time.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Can someone change the name of this thread to Robin?

Anyway, as others have said, it wouldn't make a whole lot of sense for Phoenix since they are under the cap, but Robin is worth a flyer on. He is a pretty fundamental player who knows his limitations and plays pretty big. I don't know that he is going to be our next big center, but he might meld nicely with JJ. But, I am not sure how we would acquire him.
