well, we did receive a healthy C in the deal in Kristic(who is gone now but whatever)...and he was pretty efficient in the starting lineup

our other need was a reliable backup for pierce and we got that too...and while he didnt quite get into the system he was able to average 9.8ppg...he can become more efficient if they can find the best way to use him..

How about a C good enough to play in the playoffs?

Even with one C who was injured, Doc didn't bother to go to him when it mattered.  He was a throw in, not a legitimate playoff C.

And the Celtics need Green to be effective last year, when they should of had a better chance of winning a title.

Potapenko was strong too, it takes more than strength that is a gross simplification.  Wilt was stronger than Russ but Russ won more, alot because of his team mates, but it's more than strength alone.

Everyone is disregarding his short stint for OKC at the end of the year and saying he would have changed something for us. He didn't give them anything.

He was slow, lacked timing, and completely excluded on offense. Which is fair enough, seeing as he was coming back from a knee issue.

how much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck was chris bosh?

I tend to agree with this. Anti-trade people want to believe we would have had the pre-injury Perk back and I just don't think this would have happened. We got everything and more out of Jermaine and we still weren't even close. It was sad watching a true Celtic get traded to another team, but at least he is in a great situation and we got some good pieces back in return.

Personally, I am ready to move on, but I will always love the guy...

As I've said here before, the trade was equal - it failed to help both teams.

The good news is that we didn't overpay for a player who was a CLEAR disappointment in OKC. You guys are going to have to get your arms around one clear fact - Perkins isn't the player he was, and that's why Ainge moved him. You can't pay 36 large for a player with all his issues. It's madness.
Coined the CelticsBlog term, "Euromistake."

Anybody that thought Perk was going to be full strength last year was crazy. It takes a good year or so after a player comes back from a knee injury for them to get back to full strength, not a few months. Expecting Perk to not progress from his current (or recent) level of play is equally nonsensical.

Which doesn't mean Danny should have paid $36M for him, though.

Shame on Danny Ainge if Shaq himself said he wasnt gonna be ready and for him not to do this trade Why do it? Because Dannys scared hes not gonna be able to pay perk? Maybe he should pay perk Maybe Perk deserves to be paid. Now when basketball comes back whose our starting Center? Yeah ever reliable Jermaine Oneal. All i know is Jajuan Johnson better give us the NBA Equivalant of what Cam Newton did in his NFL debut or Danny Ainge should be fired

Nothing I saw from Green say's "Best player in the deal"

Nothing I've read in this thread strikes me as stuff we haven't hashed and rehashed multiple times already on cblog.

I'm moving on.
Celtics fan for life.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
At the end of the day, Perkins was never going to be himself for the playoffs. His lift, movement and speed were about 60-70% of his former self.(if that)He was a liability on defense, and he has no offense.

Thus, Danny faced the problem of having a Perkins at 65% for the playoffs who also wanted too much money once his knees were back to 90%.

It seems, to an emotional fan base, a very hard decision to make.

For me, if Perkins was 100% and this trade was made, I still think it was an okay move at the time, because of Marquis' injury- but I could understand the resentment/shock.
Considering Perkins had come off major surgery and was at least 6-9 months away from being close to what he once was, it's a no brainer, and having Perkins on one leg would not have made a licking difference to our playoff result.

The trade probably wouldn't have been made if Perk was never injured. Once Marquis went down, it was bound to happen with the combination of Perk+Marquis.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

The worst part was not losing Perk but losing half the roster. I think that only poured salt on the wound. Rondo wouldn't have been affected as much, I think, if they didn't trade off everyone else.
