Overall: This is easily a top ten kind of beer, the best example of the style I’ve ever had and one that I could easily drink a four-pack of.  It goes down with the ease of a session beer, but packs a little extra punch with the 6.70% ABV (which is fairly mild for a doppelbock), and deserves to be savored. I will try to always keep some in the fridge in case a celebration calls for it!

Celebrator, to celebrate on Pandas Dance Floor

I dont have the pictures I have at home but I will drink one today just for you all

My buddy and I order Celebrator for the "little plastic horsey" that comes on each bottle --- a terrific parenting substitute/choking hazzard present for his little daughter. We're nothing if not thoughtful drinkers....

This is why I can't be a beer snob.  A review of Pliny the Elder:

Quote
wow! this beer is awesome!!! strong pine flavor with a strong bitterness.

"Strong pine flavor with a strong bitterness" just doesn't sound in any manner appealing to me.  I'm sure it's fantastic, but when I think "pine flavor", I don't think of good things.

Beer advocate ranks the Pliny the Elder better big thing
This year they rank Plyny the younger better in a lot of sites too.

I love it and I know is also top ten
from time to time and year to year they change rankings

You try both?
If you never try Celebrator then we cant argue.

I'm not crazy about the Avett Brothers, but there's something about them that makes it feel like the right pick for GC's bar.

I was lucky to see them before they broke out in several small clubs. I think that helped make me crazy about them --- as intense as any punk band I've seen and as beautiful as any songs I've heard live.

Our wedding invite CD (yes our wedding invite was a mix CD -- fun idea but more expensive than you'd think) had 2 of their songs on it.

I've had a few friends do the wedding invite CD thing and it's a pretty cool idea.  Did you and the wifey pick out the songs yourselves or did the wedding party pick songs that made them think of the two of you...I've seen both done.

We picked out the songs --- which went fairly smoothly. For the most part, they were songs of bands we'd seen together over the last few years (Avett Brothers, Cheap Girls, Bridge & Tunnel, Chuck Ragan), or CDs we'd got together (She & Him, Rocky Votolato) and one track that I just thought would be awesome as a personal ode to me: Weird Al Yankovic's "White & Nerdy".

And with us both being graphic designers, we designed a case and had them screen-printed:

Flickr set of the screen printing

Very cool.  Is that you doing the screen printing?

I wish... Nope.... unlike 85% of Gainesvillians (including my wife) i have NO tatoos :)

Some friends of my wifes who run a screen print shop 2 doors down from my work
