In my opinion, the closer you get to Cork (Ireland), the better it is.

I believe that part of Guiness' popularity state-side is that they supposedly figured out sooner than their competitors how to ship it and keep it "fresh", for lack of a better word.  Years ago I would have Murphy's at a couple of places and have it seem off then find one place where it was just delicious.
