I am all for this trade.

Paul is a top 5 player in the NBA.
It'd be hard to say no.  No question.

I imagine it would be even harder to say yes however.

If there is a way to get CP3 in green, you have to do it.

Rondo hasn't shown he can lead a team and CP3 has made guys like David West look like All-Stars.

Hell, he may even be able to make a career for Jeff Green.

No thanks....if it was a straight swap, and you were assured of Paul's health, maybe. We aren't certain about either of those things though.

I forgot about that championship that Paul lead New Orleans to....Sorry.

Ric Bucher sounds like Ric Flair talking basketball.

I'm not following Bucher's logic:

The C's could either trade Rondo for CP or simply sign CP as a free agent, but the latter option would leave them with both RR and CP, so they'd trade for him instead?

If you had both CP3 and RR on the same roster, you have an $11m backup point guard; why would you want that?  Not only would RR object to not getting minutes, but from the team perspective you would put the money towards a starter or bench players that would actually get significant minutes.

I can't believe there are actually Celtics fans who would not trade Rondo for CP3.

Better then a $19m backup in ORL lol
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

I think you make this trade despite the risk that Paul could walk after the season.  Having (assuming it still exists) his Bird rights could really make an enormous difference in the FA process.

And Paul not only improves the team (if teams couldn't sag off Rondo, the Big Three would be even more dominant).  Also, Paul makes the C's a destination for other free agents much more than Rondo does.

Whatever, Bucher.  Thanks for re-hashing an argument that you probably borrowed from the fan boards anyway.

Nothing to see here.  Just because a guy who gets paid by a large network says it, doesn't mean there's any more truth to this rumor than there ever was.
DKC Seventy-Sixers:

PG: G. Hill/D. Schroder
SG: C. Lee/B. Hield/T. Luwawu
SF:  Giannis/J. Lamb/M. Kuzminskas
PF:  E. Ilyasova/J. Jerebko/R. Christmas
C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson

This is one of those things where no matter how many times you talk about it, you keep coming back to the same thing.  If you can get the Paul of 3 years ago and only have to give up Rondo and filler, that's hard to turn down.  If Paul can't ever get back to that level, you're taking on a much bigger salary obligation for a player who's only slighter better than Rondo at best.

Rondo was the fourth best player on that championship team, he didn't lead anyone anyhere.  Rondo could never do for New Orleans what Chris Paul has done.

Without that 4th best player leading that team...They don't get out of the second round.

What exactly has Chris Paul done for New Orleans that Rondo hasn't done for Boston?

Carry a team to the playoffs.

Rondo is a top 5 PG.

Paul is a top 5 player.

Rondo has been blessed with great weapons that without him, would still be a contender.

Paul has not had those great weapons.

This doesn't take anything away from what Rondo did.  He is a top 5 PG.

Paul is the better player.  Period.

And if you can take a top 5 player at a position and upgrade him to a top 5 player overall (best at the same position), you do it.

Show the ability to consistently lift his team to be better than they should be, when other teams try to take away what he wants to do.

Rondo has done this once or twice, but has struggled many more times when good teams have tried to take away his strengths.  Paul on the other hand has consistently been able to overcome anything other teams have thrown at him, and helped his team overachieve.

Its not a real knock on Rondo, that's just the difference between a star and a franchise player.  Paul is a franchise player.
