Anyone have a problem with Beasley as my starting SF?
Yes

I realize he's better suited as a PF.

But he played the 3 quite a lot last year, and with the defense provided by Haslem and Noah behind him, I think he offers more to the lineup starting at SF.
The problem is his offense as much as his defense at SF.

Can you elaborate? Do you mean shot selection?

He ranked 20th in PPG last season, and shot as well from the field as some big name players who went in the first round.
Awful shot selection, complete ball stopper, had no clue how to play SF in any sort of structured offense.

He was 20th in PPG because he jacked up a ton of shots, and his efficency was bad.

The only first round pick who was worse was Rondo I believe and Rondo has a much lower usage percentage and is creating shots for others.

As many shots per game as Westbrook, Aldridge, and Bargnani, all of whom only averaged 2 points more than Beasley, or one more make from the field per game.

Rodney Stuckey and Taj Gibson being an amazing bench.

Funny thing over the course of a season an extra made basket per game is a lot of production. Especially when you do so on the same number of shots. (ie better efficiency)

I mean look at offensive rating, Beasley is a 100 and Aldridge is a 114 last year. Better efficiency with regards to turnovers and your TS% make a big difference.

Also consider how he impacted his teammates while getting his scoring. Westbrook/Aldridge make their teammates better offensively, Beasley holds them back with his poor decisions and chucking.

I think the other argument though is that if Beasley isn't taking those shots, who is?

He was the only guy on Minny's roster that could create his own bucket from an inch of space and little creativity.

He can also create a bong from a traffic pylon and a hotel bathtub. So there's that too.

I was going to say that.

Not that last thing, the other thing.

He wasn't much better when he was able to play with Wade. The fault dear IP is not in his teammates but in Beasley.

At least as a quick PF he has a more favorable match up and can play closer to the rim.

I think Beasley gets a bigger bump offensively from playing alongside S.Nash at the PF position than the SF position. No Haslem + J.Noah clogging the paint. More space for Beasley to attack from in one-on-one situations and off pick and rolls.

I also think your team in general gets a bigger bump offensively from Beasley playing the PF spot than the SF position. The spacing will be better in the halfcourt with the added shooting ability, there will be more movement and cutting without the ball and you'll be much more dangerous in transition.

Without that offensive boost from Beasley, I don't think you can justify him as a starter in this league.

His negative defensive contributions are just harmful. His value as an offensive player fails to make up for that. Too inefficient and difficult to play alongside. He needs to create that offensive boost to be a worthwhile starter.

Otherwise, your team would be better off with a Jared Dudley type ... even if your squad does have a lack of recognizable shot-creators. Just let Nash do his thing and have intelligent scrappy shooters around him who'll compete.

-----------------------------------------

I also think Beasley has more potential defensively at the PF position than at the SF position. He has the athleticism and quickness (relative to his position) to become a quality team defender there. I haven't seen that capacity from him at the SF position.

Why does everyone forget that Stuckey is 6'5"? Also, Taj is too unskilled at6'9" to play the 4? But they do both love sliders.

What are the thoughts of other gms.

Should I start Hasbrough at the 4 and move Josh Smith to the 3. Or start Smith at the 4 and Jeff Green at the 3. Either way you're going to see plenty of all 3.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

I argued pretty hard during the pick 2 draft that Josh Smith could play the 3 for big minutes...but I was just kidding.

I prefer J.Smith and J.Green as starters.

Also, I like Hansbrough more as a backup big than a starter. His lack of size is less of an issue there.

I think he can do it depending on the match up. They used that line up to good effect against Orlando for example.

Yep. Hansbrough's motor is best served off the bench. He should outhustle most of his opponents.
