You know, I always had a soft spot for the Randolph and Boozer pairing.  I questioned the defense, but the rebounding is great and how the hell would you stop both of them (even without Rose in the picture)?

That's easy. healthy dose of antawn jamison, duh
Haha, okay Mr. I-Like-Randolph-But-Boozer's-Game-Is-Ugly.

I'll stand by my criticisms of Boozer. I don't like him as a player. I don't think you can count on him against better opponents (particularly taller ones) to get you buckets.

Combine that with the fact that, in my opinion he's either a poor to average defender, I don't think he's worth where he gets drafted or picked.

I know we disagree on this, but 20 points, 10+ rebounds, and highly efficient offense, coupled with average defense, is worthy of a first rounder in my mind.

I get the "he struggles with taller players" meme, but in '10 he averaged 19.5 points on 56% shooting.  Guys who struggle with bigger opponents simply can't put up numbers like that.
Yeah, I don't think people realize how efficient Boozer really is.  And it's not like he's not versatile, he's good on the block, pick and roll, second chance opportunities, and he has a decent jump shot.

There's really only about 3 other guys in the league that have the same combination of elite rebounding and elite low post play.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

I heard your criticisms, but I wonder what the big difference is between them in your mind.  They are quite similar in ability and style.

What I like about Z Bo is that I think you can rely on him as a go to scorer. Even if there is a drop in efficiency, he's still going to "get his."

And I have more confidence in a superstar "forcing" things and resulting in less efficient scoring, then I have with a superstar whose going to be a little more passive

Did you just say Gooden produces? Where the heck were you during the pick 2 draft?

11 points, 7 rebounds in 24 minutes.  Per-36, that's 17-10.  He's not a great player -- that's why he's on the bench -- but I think a lot of folks are way too hard on Gooden.

Great post offense, great rebounding, great outside shooting, and great penetration.  A great bench (let's say Gooden, Dampier, Lee, and Jefferson).  The defense would have been average, but not terrible.

So RJ at the 3 where his defense is worse and this is the same Eric Dampier who didn't play in the post season for the Heat? And Gooden, that's still Drew and not Doc, right?

Picking at nits.  Also, I'm quite happy with Jefferson at the 3, and Rashard, too.  Gooden produces.  Dampier wasn't a great fit for Miami's system -- he's more of a half-court player -- but he can still play defense and rebound.

I meant to type Rashard at the 3, and if you're happy with Rashard you're crazy. his defensive strengths are that he's stronger and longer than he looks so he can battle fours, but his foot speed is atrocious and consistently gets burned by threes. And it's not picking at nits to say that they only legit 7 footer you have is not good enough at defense and rebounding to get off the bench to help a title contender that needed a 7 footer who could defend and rebound.

While I don't buy into that criticism of Boozer, I would think he'd do a lot better as the third scoring option on a team, especially when he was being defended by Antwan Jamison and... egads... Hedo Turkoglu.

For someone who dogs Kirilenko for being soft, you certainly are forgiving to Drew Gooden.

Walker played great, and put up great numbers but once he got matched up against a good opponent he couldn't do anything to help his team win.

You could say the exact same thing about the best player in the NBA.

David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels

I'm not sure if you're making a point in general, or if you're talking about Lebron's ineffectiveness in the clutch.

Hey, it's not my fault Erik Spoelstra didn't see the value in a slower, but more intimidating defensive and rebounding big man.  At the very least, Dampier is a rich man's version of Jason Collins.

As for Lewis at SF, I don't know what to tell people.  He played primarily small forward in Washington, and he outproduced his opponents there.  If others aren't seeing it, there's not much I can say to convince them.

We're arguing about the year before, but last year's version of the Kings may have been the most talented one in the league.  However, Lebron sucks in the clutch.

I know you are arguing about the year before, but my team the year before had rip and maggette, so i don't wanna talk about that ;)

A lot of people treat AK47 like he's some sort of star player.  As a bench player, he'd be fantastic (at least if there was any evidence that he'd buy into his role).
