Trade Announced:

NYK trades Tyreke Evans, Andrei Kirilenko, John Salmons

MIL trades Deron Williams

Yes, do not like this for Edgar at all. Deron Williams is arguably the best point guard in basketball. Even a trade like this one for him would have to involve multiple draft picks on the other side, as well as the players involved.

I can see why Edgar did it. I doubt people were banging down the doors with offers for Monta Ellis that he liked, and a Deron/Monta backcourt wasn't selling. Salmons is a serviceable player, and AK-47 is a decent enough defender and a versatile piece. Edgar wanted a team, not a collection of talent, and he opted to built it around Ellis, not Williams, because I bet at least he saw Williams as bringing back pieces he wanted.

But it worked out as a top 10 pick for a late 2nd rounder, a 4th rounder and a 7th rounder, which would've been vetoed if it were on picks alone, right?

I'm anxious to hear what others think about this trade. Maybe I'm being too hard on it.

What would Simmons call it? A fifty-cent piece, a quarter, and a dime for a dollar?

Maybe I don't like Evans enough to like this deal. I also don't think Salmons or Kirilenko help Edgar much.

Edgar, I actually had you ranked kinda high this year, before this anyways. GC, I love it.  I hate Tyreke with a passion so im glad so see you get rid of him.  Im also pretty down on AK47, so basically you took the two parts of your starting line up that I hated and added a piece that I love.

Edgar,
I am very disappointed.

I actually don't mind it for Edgar.  He was going nowhere with his previous team, due in large part to selecting Antwan Jamison (bad pick).  There biggest criticisms of his team were that his front court wasn't mobile enough to defend, and that Monta would fight for touches with Deron, making Deron less effective as a "traditional" PG.

This trade alleviated those two concerns.  AK47 is a mobile defender at PF, who can also slide over to SF.  Tyreke doesn't need the ball in his hands as much as Deron, but he's a very dynamic player who can alternate possessions with Monta.  I think his talent level is closer to his rookie year than it was his sophomore campaign, and I expect a bounceback. Salmons, if nothing else, is serviceable and is good depth.

It's not a perfect trade, obviously.  There's nobody in the starting lineup that can be trusted to set up a consistent half-court offense.  However, I think Edgar did improve his team's chances, even if he did lose top line talent.

I thought Milwaukee did alright.

Tyreke Evans is a very nice young player. A better defender / rebounder at the two guard spot than Deron Williams is so I think that backcourt combo works better on that end of the court.

I don't really like them together offensively but I didn't like Deron and Monta either. Plus, the rest of the lineup are better when playing off others rather than creating themselves. A lot of one-on-one basketball.

JJ Barea off the bench will be a nice player to put alongside Tyreke to restore some order and direction to the offense. His (Barea) role just increased. I'd play McGrady alongside Monta and let Tracy run the point while Barea + Tyreke are resting.

AK-47 adds considerable value to the Bucks so long as he used as an undersized PF and not a SF. That in combination with Tyreke should balance the ledger for them.

John Salmons is too unreliable to be considered anything more than a throw in. Too much of a non-passer and selfish gunner to play serious minutes on a team with Tyreke + Monta anyway.

For whatever it's worth, here's what the trade would have looked like in a 30 team league:

1.9 for 2.9, 4.3, 6.7

It still doesn't look great in terms of draft position, but it looks better.  Also, with players, you have to look at talent level, and not just draft position.  Guys with elite talent (such as Tyreke Evans) can fall to the second round, and I think some GMs probably see the two as not all that far apart (especially after Deron was shown to be a pretty huge jerk in Utah).  I mean, going by last year's draft, Tyreke went 18th, and Deron 11th, so it's not like this is completely out of left field.

I'll say this Pawnee would consider pairing two of their 'medium to big sized 4' for a superstar.

Ha, I didn't think the trade was all that bad. Though I do really hate the idea of Monta and Tyreke sharing the ball, but I'll be honest, it was more about getting to use the pic.
