Kidd or ____
Rip or ____
Melo
Millsap
Noah

With a scoring backup guard and a defensive wing on the bench. Plus two bigs.

That was the team I was hoping Chicago would build prior to trading Millsap.

The disappointment is palpable.

Oh, I don't know.

Yes, I could have drafted those players. Passing on Kidd was a mistake, I'll admit.

But my current squad is much better defensively. It should also be deeper and more talented, thanks to the improved draft position. I have other reasons for making trades that I will reveal when it comes time for voting.

Bottom line, I still have the chips to arrive at a superior end product.

So we're looking at:

PG. ?
SG. Kobe Bryant
SF. Carmelo
PF. JJ Hickson
C. Chris Kaman

and

Nash
J-Rich
Ariza
Haslem
Noah

I think Lucky did himself a pretty huge favor here, but I can't wait to see how CP fleshes out that Bryant/Melo core. I don't like Hickson at the 4, but beyond that I love Kaman there, and I am anxious to see how people think Melo/Bryant are going to co-exist.

melo and kobe are really good friends. i see this as a wade and lebron pairing(they dominate). It will be pretty hard to stop both guys on any given night they can combine for 60+ points...

i wasnt feeling the nash uptempto style of play as a great fit with kobe and kaman...im going to look for a point guard that can run the half court offense well.

as far as hickson goes..he is extremely talented but inconsistent..in games against the celtics this year he looked like a beast.
Being friends doesn't translate into good fit on the court.  Kobe doesn't let Gasol do his thing, is he going to pass to Melo?

Will he accept that Melo is the best scorer in the NBA, or will he continue to think he is?

Who takes the shot at the end of the game?  How is Melo gonna take it when Kobe is hoisting turn-around fall-away 22 footers with a defender all over him in the clutch?
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

first of of all kobe and gasol went to 3 straight finals together and gasol has been an allstar the past three years with kobe..so they both put up great numbers so i dont know what you're talking about as far as "gasol not doing his thing".. usually kobe is double covered at the end of games and now with melo kobe will get way better looks.
Pick 2 Heat:
Pg: Jennings/Vasquez
Sg: Wade/R. Allen/Rivers
SF: Lebron/M. Williams
PF: Bosh/Humphries
C: B. Lopez/Dalembert/Anthony

How is Melo gonna take it when Kobe is hoisting turn-around fall-away 22 footers with a defender all over him in the clutch?

Actually, I'd worry a lot more about how Kobe is going to take it. Carmelo is definitely the more passive of the two. The uncompromising alpha in Kobe is what led him to 5 rings, but it also drove away Shaquille and made Phil Jackson take a sabbatical. How is Kobe going to feel when he reads a story in the LA Times analyzing the clutch statistics between him and Melo that state explicitly that Melo is the better closer?

1st Trade:

Kings send Devin Harris, 7.8, 9.23, and 12.2
Heat send Chauncey Billups  and 6.6

Wanted: NickAgneta for larceny in the first degree.
These types of trades kinda take the fun out of the game for the rest of us.  1 or 2 of them isn't a big deal but this is getting ridiculous.

Ah, this one isn't as bad as some others we've seen. Billups is in definite decline with one foot out the door..probably not too far away from where Sam Cassell was a few of years ago.

A little better probably overall, but I don't think he's going to wow too many people in the coming year.

I like the trade for SAC as much for the intangibles Billups brings (leadership, experience, professionalism) as much as his skillset.

Dont have an issue with this trade. I think it's fair. Harris is a much better talent at this point the billups. Billups after this season looks like he can't consistently stay on the floor anymore. I mean he is at the point where thigh bruises make him miss two weeks. That being said he is a better fit on the kings and his clutch ability is vital to put by James. The 6.6 makes it worth trading Harris for billups and his injuries. I feel the kings could have gotten more for Harris in terms of a player bc billups is so broken down but that 6.6 is nice. Tp to both teams for improving their teams.

We look at the trade this way. If the trade is 2 trades both trades are fairly even.

Billups for Harris and a 9th rounder. Talent exchange is about even but Billups brings intangibles and the 9th rounder gets Miami to add a great young talent to add to Team of the Future front runner because so many are going for Win Now teams.

6.19 for 7.7 and 12.2. I have seen worse trades of draft picks than this trade down in the middle of the draft.

Both teams achieved what they wanted.

We got what we believed was a perfect PG for the ball dominant LeBron. We got 4th quarter clutchness and leadership which as everyone seems to remind us a certain player lacks. we also got to have a quality 6th man because we gave up 2 picks and our depth after our 6th man won't be nearly as good now.

Miami has decided to make a concerted run for Team of the Future and Billups was a bad fit for that type of team. They also wanted more picks as they see that young inexperienced talent that can be developed for the future is dropping like a rock in this draft due to so many looking to win now and going with established talent.

I think both teams achieved their objectives.

Is it 6.6 or 6.19?

Blockbuster trade that I like for both teams:

CHI sends Melo, 6.17, and 13.8
OKC sends Nash, Ariza, and 9.20

I think the value is fair, I like the players involved, and I like what it does for both teams.

Like Kobe and melo less then Kobe and Nash. Only one ball. I'll change my mind if a pass first pg is chosen who can evenly distribute the ball.

I really don't like how Lucky robbed himself of top level talent and I don't think Melo and Kobe will be able to exist at all.

kobe and melo can do it if lebron and wade can do it.

Sorry but I completely disagree. Present day Kobe and melo are no where near as talented as lebron James and Dwayne wade. Kobe was a in 2008 but not now, and melo has never been as good as those guys.

"only one ball" "who takes last shot" was said about ray kg pierce, lebron wade and bosh(these 3 have huge egos), and when the 3rd bananna joins melo and amare in NY. in the new nba stars like to play with other stars to win and sacrifice individual numbers. i think if melo got traded to lakers this year for bynum it would have been a total different story in the playoffs.

A) That chart doesn't help you.  3&5 on a list is never as good as 2&4.  Close, but not as good.

B) Their defense and passing are still not on the same level.

Also not to mention that 2 and 4 play on the same team, so they had to compete with each other for shots. 3 and 5 did not, if we're just looking at this as a singular thing.
