  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
I like Crash, but I'm puzzling over the fit with Gay and Rondo.
Running team, with a lot of line up flexibility as you can slide Wallace/Gay to the 3/4 respectively.

It will be a challenge to add the other pieces you need not picking until the 5th round however.

that's the price to pay for me to get Rudy Gay. But this 3 is solid already. I think I can find good value at 5th for bigs.

Mavs - Andrea Bargnani

I think this was too early for him, and while not a bad fit, there were bigger point guards to fry.

Agreed! Way too early.

Why is it way too early? he put up 21 a game in a league that's devoid of quality centers.  Desperately needs to improve rebounding and defense still an issue, but he is a true scorer.

Poor defensively, poor rebounding, doesn't really get to the line much, and not in incredibly gifted passer or leader.

There's a guy there who I thought long and hard about at 2.8 who would've been a picture perfect fit for Rondo and Gay.

Yep. I know exactly who you mean.

Rebounding is atrocious and his defense is non existent.

still a matchup nightmare for 99% of the centers out there.  That's a pretty fun pairing but will Bargs get D12 into foul trouble by relying on help defense constantly at the 4?
If he's paired with Howard he will no longer draw mismatches as often.
He's also a lot less of a liability on defense with Howard.

Bargs certainly makes for an interesting frontcourt complement to Dwight Howard.

I believe Bryan Colangelo recently admitted that Bargnani is not suited to play center, and should be moved to PF.
He's equally ill-suited to play PF with his slow lateral movement.

One of the few areas of the game he excels at defensively is post defense, he'll have less chance to apply that at PF. Meanwhile his help defense and man to man liabilities could get worse....

I personally think its a fantastic pairing.  Dwight will absolutely make up for his rebounding shortcomings.  Dwight will always draw the defensive assignment on the better offensive 4/5.  Offensively, this duo and Pawnee Pacers will be matchup nightmares for any other frontcourt.
Since when is Bargs a match up nightmare for oppposing PFs? He causes a lot of Cs trouble sure, but most PFs in the league have been covering stretch 4s for a while.

Good running team.

Does Wallace start at the 3 or 4? Portland seems to think he's better suited as a power forward...

he was also playing 2 back in his days in Sacramento and occasionally with Charlotte. So I can slide him as my 2 guard. Bring it D-Wade.

Personally i'd keep him away from the 2 as much as i could.  Less tempting for him to jack dumb threes when he's playing the 3 or 4.

"Most PFs" can guard 7 foot tall PF's who can shoot 3 pointers extremely well with a high release point?  I'd say less than 5 can.

EDIT:  Bargs can also serve as a legit backup center.

Luckily for Andrea playing next to D12 allows him to focus on the things he does well, scoring from range and hides slot of his deficiencies rebounding and defense. Down in here in Texas we have a motto. Bigger is better and the Mavericks are being built from the top (D12) down.

There are other tall guys who can shoot threes while giving you nothing else. He's not a game changing offensive player. Moving him to PF will hurt his offense and lessen the ability to get mistmatches. Bargs always thrived on getting Cs who didn't want to drift out of the paint with him, far more PFs are comfortable doing that.

He'll be effective at spacing the floor with Dwight, but its a wasted pick. He's taller than Dwight Howard, too bad he plays like a SF with the quickness of a C.

True. Most PF's will not be able to block Barg's shot, and they won't be able to sag off him.

However, he's not particularly efficient on the scoring end. He's a good compliment offensively to Dwight Howard. He adds nothing defensively.

There are other guys out there who do what he'd do with Dwight Howard, better.
