I think even if this is true, it won't stop him from coming to the NBA...as soon as there is an NBA.  I think (again, if this is true, and not just things you say after winning a title), he might just be exploring options to stay on the payroll until the lockout is over.

This might be Rubio trying to be polite to his current employers. He won't announce he's definitely going to the NBA until he and Barca can agree on a buyout.

I believe he's afraid to get out of his comfort zone....look at Vasquez who was drafted by Orlando a few years ago

I don't expect him to come over this year. The (likely) lockout makes the timely too difficult.

Barcelona will need Rubio to make his decision by early to mid July on whether he'll be there next season or not. It's very unlikely that the NBA's lockout situation will have ended by that point.

Too large a risk to sit out a few months and hope for the NBA to be back in time for a full season. Better to sign with Barcelona for one year, get a full season's pay and join Minnesota the following summer.

the guy is still so young!  After a couple of more years in Europe, he'll come to a point that he has nothing more to prove, nothing more to win on the european courts.  Like Kukoc before him, he'll make the move to the NBA at some point.  But with the lockout looming, this would probably be the worst moment to move to the NBA.

the longer this takes, the worse that pick looks. it was kind of bad at the time (#5 is way too high for a guy you know won't be coming over for at least a year or two), and has only grown worse over time. they don't run a good ship there in minny...

I disagree, I wouldn't fault them for selecting Rubio, I fault them for everything else.

Agreed.  Drafting Rubio was right.  Drafting Flynn instead of Curry was the big mistake.

Although what an improvement a Curry and DeRozan starting backcourt would be over Ridnour and Wesley Johnson.

Anyway, not sure if this has been posted, but great article went up last week on SB Nation sister blog Canis Hoopus projecting Rubio's NBA rookie year.

The conclusion? Something in the neighborhood of 7 points on sub-40% shooting, 8 assists, 6 rebounds and 2 steals per game.

Interestingly, looking at 23 and under NBA point guards who posted below 15 points per 36 scoring averages, and at least 8 assists and 5 rebounds, the optimistic player comparisons are then Jason Kidd, Nate McMillan and our own Rajon Rondo.

Quote
The defensive point guard who generates possessions by collecting rebounds and steals better than anyone else in the league, and maintains possessions through upper-echelon ball-handling and passing.

Yeah, I just heard on ESPN Radio that there will be a meeting in the next couple of days and Rubio will officially be joining the TWolves for the upcoming season...sorry there is no link, as it was on the radio.

I read that he lost his starting position on that Barcelona team due to his poor play.  I know he's young, but I'm getting the feeling he might not do so well in the NBA just yet.

do you think hes overrated? he hasnt played a single NBA game yet...

but even so, a TWolve team that is rebuilding now have a POSSIBLE lineup of

Rubio
SG
Derrick Williams
Michael Beasley
Kevin Love

I think if they hire a good coach, this team can be a good playoff team in 2-3 years
