the longer this takes, the worse that pick looks. it was kind of bad at the time (#5 is way too high for a guy you know won't be coming over for at least a year or two), and has only grown worse over time. they don't run a good ship there in minny...
I disagree, I wouldn't fault them for selecting Rubio, I fault them for everything else.
Agreed. Drafting Rubio was right. Drafting Flynn instead of Curry was the big mistake.
Although what an improvement a Curry and DeRozan starting backcourt would be over Ridnour and Wesley Johnson.
Anyway, not sure if this has been posted, but great article went up last week on SB Nation sister blog
Canis Hoopus projecting Rubio's NBA rookie year.
The conclusion? Something in the neighborhood of 7 points on sub-40% shooting, 8 assists, 6 rebounds and 2 steals per game.
Interestingly, looking at 23 and under NBA point guards who posted below 15 points per 36 scoring averages, and at least 8 assists and 5 rebounds, the optimistic player comparisons are then Jason Kidd, Nate McMillan and our own Rajon Rondo.
The defensive point guard who generates possessions by collecting rebounds and steals better than anyone else in the league, and maintains possessions through upper-echelon ball-handling and passing.
