Those line-ups you posted have NO floor spacing.  Ray spreads the floor which creates easier driving lines for others.  Pretty valuable commodity when you have a pg who can't shoot and an aging go to scorer that needs a lot of room to get shots off because he can't rise up over defenders.........

would you guys seriously stop with the ray and rondo trades?

seriously just stop sayin should we trade ray allen and rondo, dude rondo is the best pg, just give it some time, and why would u trade ray now? how many 35 year old guys springting up and down scoring 20 a game and having the most remarkable season this year? come on, and aslo KG too, dude he averaged a double double almost every game.

  • Rondo = Good
give people their chance to fantasize about the celtics making changes that will keep them relevant.

the alternative is to accept that next year is a bridge year ending in another 2nd round exit, followed by years of uncertainty due to players retiring, leaving the celtics with nothing but rondo and cap space.

Well, I don't know if we should stop them, but I do think that the chances of Ray being traded are pretty low.  While he does have a 10 million dollar expiring contract and while he does still play at a very high level, I'm not exactly sure what we can get for him.

Up and coming teams with a lot of talent aren't going to be in the market for him.  And while he'd do wonders for a team like Chicago, Chicago isn't going to give us anyone who can be a building block for Ray.  And if that's not going to happen, there's no point in trading Ray for some role players.

To compound the problem, with any trade that involves us taking back salary beyond this coming season, Danny is going to have to ask himself whether the players with longer contracts are worth giving up cap flexibility.

Given all of these things, unless some team really blows us away, I see Ray finishing the season (if there is one) in Green.

What about that post could be wrong?

It's a fact that after next season all the Celtics want to have is Pierce, Rondo, and cap space.  That's a whole lot of uncertainty

Yes, there's no way we could ever hope to beat the Heat, who just swept the Mavs, winning every game by 20 points or so.

  Oh, wait...

4 years ago it was a fact that Wyc and Danny were going to let Ratliff walk when his contract expired because they had no interest in trading for any big contracts.

Uncertainty can be worrisome, but I don't know that breaking up the team to avoid it is a great plan.

Ray "is" great. Ray "is" 36 next season. Ray "will not" be the starting off guard for us for the next 2-3 years plus. If there is a deal our there that can land me a future starter at off guard, PF or center ( I'm not yet worried about Pierce and I see and hope that Rondo retires a Celtic...) I am trading Ray Allen and a draft pick or two for that guy.

Look, I think it's highly unlikely that Ray gets traded - and I'm Ok with that - I'm not saying he can't play the spot "next season", but if the right deal came along where I could add another young piece and still be just as competitive, I'm making that move.

Pierce, Rudy Gay, DWest and OJ Mayo can provide floor spacing? And who says that the only offense that will work for us is one with Ray creating the floor spacing?

29 or 30 other teams in the league put offenses on the floor without Ray Allen on their team.
