Firstly, an above all, it makes me sad.  He's been everything you could want a player to be, on and off the court, since coming to Boston.  Why would you want to get rid of that?

Secondly, it makes little sense to me.  The prevailing wisdom is the Celtics need more shooting/scoring, especially from the backup 2, so you trade your all-star starting 2?  How does that help at all?

Thirdly, and this is something I've seen little mentioned: Boston doesn't have the best rep for attracting free agents.  I know for the most part there haven't been major guys who we've had cap room for when they've been available, but I think we've occasionally swung and missed at a few MLE's we wanted.  With that said, how do you think we're ever going to get a top free agent here if we trade Ray Allen for a draft pick a month after he picks up his option to stay here, after resigning here last year, and having one of the best years of his career?  He's one of the most respected players in the NBA, and that would (or should) give any future free agent pause before signing here.  (This also goes for trade Paul Pierce discussions, although thankfully I've seen less of those lately.)

That's all.  Please recommence with S&T's for Baby discussions.

Because he is in last year and has trade value.

Ray Allen is my favorite player ; but unless something major is done to fix our post were not contending this year...and a lot of contendors would be willing to give up picks for him to put them over the edge

Why doesn't this sense of loyalty extend to Rondo?  Just curious.  People get angry about the prospect of trading one of the big three.  Pierce I understand, Ray and Garnett not so much.  Yet Rondo doesn't receive that same loyalty, even though he's a two-time All-Star, reigning first team All-Defense, our only current building block for the future.  The kid left everything he had on the court for us this postseason, yet people are seemingly willing to tip him over the side for pennies on the dollar.  I don't get it.

Were likely not getting anything as good as ray in return and if it pushes another contender over the top what good does it do to us? We were a healthy rondo and bbd contributing in the playoffs from beating miami. Why blow it up?

There shouldn't be a "sense of loyalty" to any player.

If they don't want to be traded, take less money and negotiate a no-trade clause into your contract.

The moves our front office makes should be about positioning this franchise to win championships - that's it

I don't think you can stop the trade Ray threads, but you can stop reading them.

Like I said, Ray is my favorite player - I don't want to see him go.

But if a contendor would give us a prospect and a first round pick .. that could go a long way in the re-building process.  Im not saying we should be marketing Ray - just open to listening to offers.

Because he is in last year and has trade value.

I think he had trade value 2 years ago when his contract was up.  But now that he is 2 years older, his value has fallen substantially to the point where the C's are not going to get anything of value for him.

Only chance he gets traded is if the C's decide to throw the season away to rebuild and Ray requests to be traded.

I love Ray Allen.  He has been everything we could have asked for on the court and everything you hope your son grows up to be off of it.  I'd hate to see him go but if it could somehow better the team now or in the future then I'd do it.

I also do not get the thinking of many here who are just dying to trade away not the teams best player at this point but also it's only star player who's best years are in front of him not in the rear view mirror. Rondo hasn't even reached his prime.  He's a bargain.  He is likely to get better.  He's tough as nails.   He makes the players around him better but getting them easy baskets.  Ya he has flaws....just like every other player in the NBA.

I'd trade Ray Allen or Kevin Garnett before I'd trade Rondo.  I love both KG and Ray but I don't love them more then I love the Boston Celtics.

You wouldn't trade:
Ray Allen, Big Baby and a #1 pick, for...
OJ Mayo and Darnell Arthur?
* Memphis might part with OJ, they could use a Vet shooter

MLE / Jermaine / Vet min
KG / Darnell Arthur /
Pierce /Jeff Green
OJ Mayo / LLE / Wafer
Rondo / DWest / Bradley

or

Ray, JeffG and a #1 pick, for...
Rudy Gay, Darnell Arthur and a 2nd round pick?

MLE / Jermaine / Vet min
KG / Big baby / Darnell Arthur
Pierce / LLE / Vet Min
Rudy Gay / DWest / Wafer
Rondo / Vet Min / Bradley

I'd do both trades and I think there's a possibility you could get one of them done, depending on what direction Memphis wants to go when Rudy comes back healthy.
*They might want to either move his contract -based on the success without him - or part ways with the troubled OJ Mayo.

Secondly, it makes little sense to me.

This is the internet.  Most things people write on the internet make little sense.

So you prefer endless Trade Rondo threads?  As for trading Baby, how do you figure that we can get more for him from someone else than he is worth to us?

I prefer a thread on 20 D-Leaguers who have a chance of helping this team next season.
