Somewhat happy and somewhat disappointed at this news.

Disappointed because Krstic was a decent center and while there are some upgrades out there ... there aren't many and the C's could easily strike out.

Happy because it ensures no more of those horrid defense / rebounding units with BBD + Krstic.

I agree.Losing Davis and Kristic is addition by subtraction imo. Our defense and rebounding was embarasing with those two.

The more important, and relevant questions are ...

Do they receive a $5.5m TPE, similar to the Hawks with Childress?

And if so can it be used now?

For those who still want to blame Danny and "the Trade"; let's assume the trade didn't go down.

The C's would not have won the title as Perkins was largely ineffective in the regular season and playoffs.  So some mythical number of 65% comes out as being an excuse for Perk not performing.  His 100% would not have put the C's over the top never mind 65%.  So how does the offseason look?

Perk is walking out the door going after his big contract.
We don't have Jeff Green who gives up a cap break to sign a decent player.

So without JG, that would have just been another huge void to add to all of our others.

Green doesn't give us any kind of "cap break".  We are well over the salary cap limit before and after the trade.

All we did was swapped Perkins for Green aka got smaller and worse

I definitely don't think we would have beat Miami with 100% Perk, but we'd be a better team walking into next season with him

Any idea on better players who are going to be willing to sign here on one-year deals?

Short of getting really lucky with the MLE, or Danny making a big trade, the guy who's going to get most of the minutes at the 5 spot next year will be......

KG.

I know he hates playing center, but it's time for him to take one for the team.  He hates banging down low, but is there realistically a better option for us available?

JO may still start (when he's not hurt), but just watch - smallball will be the default.  Because KG at the 5 means a re-signed Jeff Green getting a lot of minutes out of position at the 4.

Rondo / Ray / Pierce / Green / KG.  That's your primary Celtics lineup.

The odds of Baby Davis returning just got a lot higher, as well.   Ugh.

Look, Perk was playing at 65 percent at best and his team still went further in the playoffs than Jeff Green's team. This trade stunk in February, was bad in May and is worse now.

Perkins was traded because Danny knew he was probably going to be limping around in the playoffs and most likely beyond. Perkins would have likely gotten suitors this summer willing to pay him 7-10 mill per year and there's no way Ainge would've matched that so it's looking pretty [dang] good that we got something out of Perkins.

Saying the Thunder got to the WCF's is just pointless. Was Phoenix better than Cleveland last year? Absolutely not. Were we better than the Spurs in 02 in the year we had the major comeback over the Nets? Your reasoning is not sensible.

im going out on a limb & saying danny is going to shop kg & ray's contract maybe even j.o(32-37 million) to bring in some young talent

That will almost entirely depend on what the new labor deal looks like.  If it's largely the same as the current rules with relatively minor changes, I'm not sure that Ainge could ever get a deal good enough to merit trading away KG and/or Ray.  If the new labor deal is significantly different, with very serious reductions in things like salaries, contract length and guaranteed money, a lot of team might be looking to offload big name players with contracts signed under the old rules.  But if salary, trade and free agent rules are too restrictive, if may not be as valuable to have big expiring contracts.

Kwame Brown isn't a decent big and DeAndre won't be leaving the clips if he is signing for MLE type money. The draft is weak and is full of non-contributors and we have the 25th pick. Also, what exactly is out there that will help us contend with the vet min? The big 3 need guys who will contribute this time around not just guys who buy time.

I too think we need to shop KG, Ray Allen and look for a sign and trade for Glenn Davis. we should start rebuilding now and not have a bridge year. Danny should buy a first round pick to go with Number 25 and try to get another first round pick in one of the trades or sign and and trade ideas involving K G and Ray Allen. we need to get as many athletic players who can play above the rim beginning with this draft and in trades. Lets get to it Danny.

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but I am curious whether this contract will have a clause that allows Krstic to return to the NBA after the lockout ends.

Obviously, its a longshot, but I expect a lot of free agents to be signing in Europe with contracts like that, and given the bad news out of negotiations lately, it seems like there isn't much reason in waiting on it.

No matter what though, Danny is going to have to be very creative this summer (or whenever things open back up).

But he was UNR so there's no recourse to get a TPE similar to Atl. and Childress ... I think.

Agreed. I was surprised that Krstic agreed to such a contract so quickly. It's possible he could have earned more money in the NBA.

I suspect an out-clause as well.
