Kristic was just  a throw in.  The Trade was about sticking it to Perkins (Ainge seems to have taken Perkins' refusal do sign on demand quite personally), and acquiring Green (viewed by many Celtics fans, unaccountably, as The Answer).

If that was true, Ainge needs a new job.

Of course we know it is not true.

since in my opinion, Kristic is a 2nd/3rd string center at best.

Krstic has been a starting center his entire NBA career; I'm not sure how you're drawing the conclusion he is 2nd/3rd string at best.  He's been a starter while other more highly touted center prospects have come and gone.  This is a huge blow as I don't think the C's have many realistic options to get a better center than Krstic this offseason.  It would require a pretty significant trade to land someone.

A starting center who played about 10 minutes in the second round of the playoffs. The guy's defense stinks and he can't rebound. Glad he is gone, but it is too bad that the Celts now don't have a reliable center. I am sure though that this is all part of Danny's master plan.  ;D

I'm trying to decipher that post, Vinnie.  You just ranted how bad Krstic is and then proceeded to say that since he's gone we don't have a reliable center....  In your mind, is Krstic a reliable NBA center?

The reality is he'd have been hard to sign anyway.

I'm amazed at the number of people in here who trashed Krstic throughout his tenure here who now thinks we've hit the abyss now that he's gone.

No. The only reason I am disappointed he is gone is at least he is a guy who you can put in the game and play center for 15-20 minutes. A guy who probably won't get injured. I think he is mediocre is best. And, I really would be ecstatic he was leaving if there was one other reliable center on the roster. Right now we have a guy with a bad wrist and a bad knee as the team's only center.

This is not good for the Celtics.

KG and JO.  That's all.

Does this force the Celtics hands and overpay Davis in terms of years and money?

Use the MLE to overpay another big man for to many seasons?

Honestly this team is in a bad place. A lot of holes and not enough money to fix them. I don't see how we can build a roster that improves on last years. I doubt the cheap free agents are looking to come over here this summer.

If the Celtics actually had a center that could be depended on for 70 or so games, this would not be such bad news, since in my opinion, Kristic is a 2nd/3rd string center at best. That said, given that the only center the team now has is JO, this is not good news. However, I am expecting little to nothing from the Celtics next year if there is a season, so this is no big deal to me. I think the next few years are going to be leans ones here.

The Perk trade looks worse every day. Now all Danny has to show for it is an underwhelming Jeff Green and a likely middle-of-the-pack draft pick. Maybe Danny has a plan to play without any centers next year.

I don't get this at all.  This past season the Celtics played almost the entire season without Perkins, with Shaq, JO, and BBD at the 5.  Shaq missed a ton of time too, along with JO.  So now because KRISTIC is going to Russia the Celtics are going to suck?

All Danny has to do is find a 5 who can give them Shaqs/BBDs minutes from last year.  The rest of the minutes will be with KG-Green rotations at the 5-4, respectively.

Re: the Perkins trade.  Kristic was bascially an additive when Danny struck out on James Harden.  It's not like we made the trade for him.

This just makes the trade look entirely worse.

We have one of the worst frontcourts in the entire league

And makes re-signing Big Baby even more of a necessity

Yeah, I am pretty worried about the situation too.

Not seeing a lot of light in this year's free agency.

Not without tearing apart the 2012 cap space by re-signing Green + a full MLE offer. Short of that, the situation looks bleak.

I wonder if Ainge is having a little talk with Doc after this development, because finding himself with virtually no playing time in the playoffs after being a big contributor for OKC had to have influenced Krstic at least a bit in making this decision.

Trading Perkins to a young team with a superstar that was willing to give him a big raise is "sticking it to him"? Haha.

It's not good but it's also not bad.  I actually like Kristic, he is polished offensively and he's big.  But he got no time in the playoffs for a reason - when push comes to shove Doc had the guys he wanted on the floor in JO and BBD.  Unfortunately for us BBD sucked.

Really it's not that bad.  Danny just has to make a shrewd decision with BBD.  Does that guy have what it takes to be the 4/5 we need, or is he too fat and too much of a head case?  If he's what we need, resign him.  If not, let him walk or sign-and-trade.  Danny and Doc better be right with this decision, particularly if Jeff Green doesn't play better next year.

[dang], Perkins won.

He got out of Boston right in time and got a salary increase to go to an up-and-coming franchise who will be contending for years to come.

They have to sign two big men that can be part of the rotation.

With Krsitic, they had more leverage.  Now, everyone knows the Celtics are in major need.

For those who still want to blame Danny and "the Trade"; let's assume the trade didn't go down.

The C's would not have won the title as Perkins was largely ineffective in the regular season and playoffs.  So some mythical number of 65% comes out as being an excuse for Perk not performing.  His 100% would not have put the C's over the top never mind 65%.  So how does the offseason look?

Perk is walking out the door going after his big contract.
We don't have Jeff Green who gives up a cap break to sign a decent player.

So without JG, that would have just been another huge void to add to all of our others.

I think it's very bad. As of right now we have to resign BBD to have just one legitimate rotational PF/C coming off the bench and he's 6'8. We definitely have to go out and get another big if the plan is contention, but the money taken for that need leaves other problems unsolved. IMO, If we can't improve on this past seasons team we might as well just blow it up.
