Not a big surprise.  Euros like Krstic are going to flock in droves away from the NBA to Europe as a result of the lockout.  Probably many American players will do the same.  Some players can't really afford to go for 6 months to a year without a paycheck.

The center situation for the Celtics is going to be quite dire next year.  Dont' be surprised to see JO playing 15-20 minutes a night backed up by a collection of Glen Davis / rookies / D-leaguers.

Next year isn't rebuilding time yet -- it's going to be a "bridge year."  Don't expect much.

I wouldn't be shocked if Krstic has an NBA opt-out in his contract.  That's what he did in 2008.  He left the Nets to play in Russia, but after a few months signed an offer sheet with the Thunder.  He'll probably be willing to come back to the NBA if someone wants to give him something along the lines of 3 years at at least $5 million/year.

If the Celtics actually had a center that could be depended on for 70 or so games, this would not be such bad news, since in my opinion, Kristic is a 2nd/3rd string center at best. That said, given that the only center the team now has is JO, this is not good news. However, I am expecting little to nothing from the Celtics next year if there is a season, so this is no big deal to me. I think the next few years are going to be leans ones here.

The Perk trade looks worse every day. Now all Danny has to show for it is an underwhelming Jeff Green and a likely middle-of-the-pack draft pick. Maybe Danny has a plan to play without any centers next year.

I'd honestly like to just have an "okay" year next season and gamble with re-building on the fly come free agency 2012.  Can Boston get D. Howard?  Who knows?...It's a long shot, but as KG said, "Anything is possible."  

It's always good to remain competitive, but if you don't win championships, then who really cares.  At this rate, I'm assuming Boston will remain a competitive team for next year, make the playoffs, but probably not win it all.  I'm okay with that.  Danny Ainge must have a blueprint, whatever it is, and I'm sure it doesn't involve having the team go back into the NBA's basement for another 5, 6, 7, 8 years.  I'd sacrifice a year of mediocrity for years of very good basketball, being at the top of the top.  Just hope it plays out.  Sometimes you have to gamble.

I like to think positively over grim news more playing time for younger players. Forces Doc hand to play and develop young players before the big 2012 FA class.  This team needs youth in the worst way. I trust Danny Ainge to flip this roster for next year going all young guys off the bench bringing in 2-3 young PF/C to fill the "Kristic" role for next year. And its Doc Rivers Job to develop them.

The thing that would've made it difficult with Krstic is that he would've probably been offered a multi-year deal for more than we would or could offer him(judging by current bird rights) for one year. I think Krstic could get 3/15mill, and even in the post-lockout league.

We fared pretty darn well with Semih Erden and Shelden Williams at center for many regular season games in the last 2 seasons...I don't think it is the difference between contending and not contending in terms of spot starting for 20-30 regular season games.

Geez, if you think Jeff Green was underwhelming, I wonder what you would've thought of Perkins as a Thunder fan? Jeff Green performed slightly better here than he did in OKC...the people who expected drastically more apparently didn't realize that we had Ray/Pierce/KG?? He was brought here to perform a role and did a pretty solid job of it.

Middle of the pack draft picks aren't bad in Danny's hands, if you are to judge his performance in strong drafts like the 2012 one projects to be. I for one wouldn't have been very happy this summer if we signed Perkins for 5 years after that postseason he just had and no assurance about his health moving forward. The draft pick is nice, but still a mystery as it's tied to the Clippers and they are a wild card team for next year.

CelticsLife is not reliable? I may be biased (I do a little bit of stuff there, not that I am very reliable LOL) but I have to disagree. I'd say the only difference between CL and CB is there are more members here and CL's message board is way smaller. Sometimes, CL is "first" with news and links and I know their recaps are usually always up around 10 to 30 (at the most) minutes after the game has ended, usually faster after losses  . It may be a small site but the people there are dedicated, believe me. Also, did you see who did the piece? Our very own Queen of the Game Threads, FLCeltsFan. It's reliable alright.

As for Nenad, he is quite easy to replace, IMO. I like Nenad. Solid player, but not someone you can not do without. Good luck, Curly.

Ditto.  I'm not that worried: (a) he can probably opt out and resign if (b) the Cs really want him.  And the (b) is a big one in this case.  There are other options for a 2/3 string center, as others have mentioned.

I don't think CSKA will give him such a generous opt out clause.

Krstic will likely be able to opt out of his contract during the summer but not during season.

Somewhat happy and somewhat disappointed at this news.

Disappointed because Krstic was a decent center and while there are some upgrades out there ... there aren't many and the C's could easily strike out.

Happy because it ensures no more of those horrid defense / rebounding units with BBD + Krstic.
