So, Jermaine might retire and Nenad may play for Moscow....can Jeff Green play center?

Definitely need a quality center if Shaq is retiring.

This is very disappointing news. I hope he'll change his mind and give it one last go.

Same here.

Well A. Sherrod Blakely just said on Twitter that he talked to JO and he confirmed that he'll be back next year... So there's that at least.

Nice, short piece by Jackie Mac is already up, with some interesting quotes and discussion of the rehab process he underwent:

Not a surprise, but it does suck that we couldn't see what Shaq could do healthy in the playoffs.  When he was healthy the first half of this season, this team was practically unstoppable.

There's little doubt in my mind we'd still be playing right now if he was healthy.

BOSTON (AP) — Shaquille O'Neal says on Twitter that he's "about to retire."
O'Neal sent a Tweet shortly before 2:45 p.m. saying, "im retiring." It included a link to a 16-second video in which he says, "We did it; 19 years, baby. Thank you very much. That's why I'm telling you first: I'm about to retire. Love you. Talk to you soon."
Celtics spokesman Jeff Twiss says that O'Neal has not notified the team of his plans.

Nice view from his house.

Too bad. I never really questioned his intentions here in Boston. He came here to win, he gave it his all, the injury just did him in.

For the price we paid, I can't say anything bad about Shaq's stint with us except that it ended prematurely and without a banner (or two).

Surprised he went out like this.

In other news -- our post is going to be dreadful if a major move isn't made this off-season

It was pretty clear to me when Shaq couldn't give it more than a token go in the Heat series that he was done.

Sad ending to a great career. It sure would have been fun to see him give us an 86 Bill Walton instead of an 87 Bill Walton (at least playoff wise).
Yup

I feel like the title should be "Shaq's Retirement" or "Shaq is Retiring", I'm not sure why I was compelled to post this. Plus tornado warnings in NH.

Shaqs career is exactly as old as me. I grew up with Shaq. It's weird picturing the NBA without him.

Can't particularly say that i loved the way he played or that i enjoyed watching him but the sound bytes and humor he has provided make me love the guy. Honestly, has there ever been a funnier proffesional athlete?

When i think about Shaqs legacy years from now i'm not going to think about the Magic, the Heat, The Lakers the Suns or even the Celtics. I'm not going to think about his championship rings or his feud with Kobe. I'm going to think about SHAQ. The way he played the game, the way he presented himself and what a great guy he was. What a unique player and person. There will never be another.

I wish he could have won a couple more championships (ecspecially with the celtics!) but they wouldn't add to his legacy, it's already set in stone.

Hope to see him on the set of TNT very soon telling it like it is with drunk Charles.

+1......I was just about to say "good riddance" for the false hope and potential (likely) championship unfulfilled IF HE HAD STAYED HEALTHY

Now, I can't be too harsh, because he was taking those 5 cortisone shots "for the team" against doctors' advice.

Sad part is that when I hear Shaq's name now and forever, it is and will always be a reminder of Celtics' dreams and championships unfulfilled. Much like when I hear the name "Lenny Bias" and to a lesser degree Reggie Lewis.
