I posted this in another thread, hope you don't mind that I start a thread with it,because I think it is worth mentioning.(not that it hasn't been brought up here before, but just a reminder)

In 2005 Danny Ainge offered Paul Pierce at 28 years old, in his prime for another 5 years for the chance to move into the high lottery specifically for the chance to draft Chris Paul.

I don't think Rondo will ever be as good as PP in his prime, so if you are willing to move PP you have to be willing to move Rondo.

It the right move to if Paul becomes available you have to get him into a Green uniform. They are just about the same age, but Paul is a cornerstone for the franchise and it also sets up the domino effect of other superstars wanting to team up with Paul.

Dwight Howard would have to think very hard about joining the C's if we have a championship coach with Doc at the helm for the next 5 years and a superstar PG that will get Howard so many easy looks( remember all those alley oops he used to get with Tyson Chandler? just imagine how many Howard would get). Also KG PP and Ray could easily make the transition to elite role players with 2 studs like that in the lineup( although I think KG would likely retire )

If Howard reaches Free Agency, his choice is Houston,New Jersey and Boston. If Paul is here along with elite role players like PP and Ray, I don't see how he doesn't choose the c's

This has got to be the plan for Danny, that's why picking up a young talent like Jeff Green and the 2012 clippers pick is so important. Danny knows that with Perk under contract for 9 mil a year he would have tied up cap space and also would not have any valuable chips to trade to try and acquire a new superstar(s)

Remember how we had to acquire Ray 1st to make Boston a more desirable place for KG to come to? Well that's the same scenario here . Acquire Paul and you become the frontrunners to land Dwight Howard IMO.

2012 Roster
PG: Paul / Bradley
SG: West / Ray
SF: PP   / FA or Draft pick
PF: MLE or draft pick(KG will likely retire)
 C: Howard

I think that team can definitely contend for a title and it would be the old guys Ray and PP passing the torch to the C's future Paul and Howard

Get it done Danny!

I don't see how we have the package to get CP....especially after Rondo just tore all the ligaments in his elbow...

but this isn't a terrible plan. CP is one of the only players I would think about trading Rondo for.

but again, I don't see us having the chips to make it happen. Plus, who is our starting center next season?

for the future, if we landed both CP and DH, I don't think KG would retire. I think all three of GPA would come back and that would be cool. I think all three of GPA would come back even if we had Rondo and DH for that matter.

I dont think Rondo's injury hurts his trade value much if at all. It was his elbow and he won't need surgery, if it was a knee or ankle maybe then his value would be hurt

I think a package of Rondo, Green, Bradley and draft picks could get it done. I don't really see any other team that could put together a package with that much young talent that still has potential to improve. Especially if paul is going to walk as a free agent in 2012

I thought I'd read that he will need surgery?  Anyway, I wouldn't rule out a Rondo-based package for CP.  We don't want Danny to give everything else away--e.g., he may think JG will be more valuable here in the future than for his trade value now and he'd really want to hold onto that Clips pick--but CP could be this round's RA deal.

haha good one, I think we are still legit contenders to land Howard if he hits free agency and we have Rondo and Green, but we are frontrunners to land him if we have Paul. ;D

If Howard reaches Free Agency

He's not going to reach free agency.  Not a chance Orlando lets him go for nothing.

yea i guess there is a good chance that he doesn't, but I would still rather have Chris Paul and a ton of cap room than rondo/green and a bunch of cap room.

Jevel McGee,Eric Gordon,OJ Mayo,Micheal Beasley,Kevin Love will be a restricted FA in 2012, so even if the c's can't land Howard they will likely be able to steal some really young athletic, skilled players to build around Chris Paul with.

I agree that Paul + cap space is better than Rondo / Green + cap space.

I'm pretty sure Eric Gordon and Kevin Love will get extended by their teams before they reach free agency, and I'm not sure Beasley or McGee are guys you want to pay a lot to be core pieces (maybe McGee . . . depends how he does in the next year or two).

Everything I have read said Rondo will not require surgery. Just rest.

basically the c's only hope to be relevant between 2012 and 2016 or whenever, so it's unsurprising

Obviously, you don't give Rondo away.

Equally as obviously, you explore what you could obtain this summer in packages that include him.
