Don't understand why people think that Howard will be traded before his contract is up if he doesn't extend with the magic.

In one word, 'Melo-drama.

Yup. Feel like they have to trade him, basically. I don't think he'll even hit the free agent market. I think he probably gets dealt and signs an extension in-season, just like Melo.

Part of Rondo's role on the team was to get the big three up and running.
When they weren't scoring, Rondo made it easier for Perkins and whoever was in his place.
I ask you, why the hell would Dwight want to play with Paul, when he can only get the ball from point guard, and Paul hogs the ball as much as he can. And when he can't, he gives it to his PF or SF.

 ???

yea because if Chris Paul had Dwight Howard as his center he would refuse to pass it to him because he in not a PF or SF......

for his career paul takes 14 shots per game(derrick rose takes 17 a game) while shooting 47% from the field and 36% from three point land( making the defense actually guard the pg position and opening the floor up for the big men underneath the hoop) . He also dishes out 10 asts per game while only having 2.5 topg for his career( with a lot less talent than Rondo has had)

Paul is unquestionably an upgrade at the point, and a scoring option that would free up the Big 3 more offensively.

Whether the Celtics will pursue him in the off-season is anothr question; I certainly agree with those here who think the call must be made.
C's were a one man team for some very long time with PP, before KG and Allen were added. Bottom of the league. We don't need a guy who will hog the ball so much that the big three will forget they even need to play. They are the core of the group, when they stop being that, they will retire. CP3 will never be able to be a sidedish, and if we lose the big three, with CP3 we become a one man team.
Unless you want him on our bench. Either way I believe strongly and firmly that it's a stupid idea of trading Rondo, knowing how valuable he is and how amazing and incredible he can be. He never was an offensive option and now you people are doubting his offensive skills and comparing to defensively unexisting player.
We just need a 5, very good, agile, versatile, young, frantic-able C to be Rondo's sidekick.
And Tony and Quis... :(

where the heck did you get the idea that CP3 is a selfish ball hog?

he is regularly among the league leaders in assists.  he has the ball in his hands most of the time, but that doesn't make him a ball hog.  he actually regularly passes up his own shot to give to another guy, even at the end of a game.

rondo handles the ball the vast majority of each game, too. he just happens not to try to score very much.

I'd like to point out that we have much more cap space with Rondo than we do with Chris Paul to improve the team in the summer of 2012.  It would be at least a $7 million difference depending on what Chris Paul's next deal is valued at.  That's a pretty significant number, especially when we consider the unknown parameters of the upcoming new salary cap structure.

We have a $10 million expiring contract in Ray Allen, and a $20 million one in Kevin Garnett.  If Danny can find the right deal for young, athletic, talented players to go forward with Rondo, I wouldn't be averse to moving one of those guys.

The beauty is that he's in the driver's seat.  If the right deal doesn't come along, he can wait until next off-season where he has plenty of money to shop for free agents and some nice draft picks along with still having Rondo and Pierce.  At that point, if Kevin and Ray can still play, he might even be able to sign them to last gasp cheap contracts.

There are lots of options out there, and I don't subscribe to the all eggs in one basket approach.

Keeping Rondo, who I don't think is close to reaching his peak as a player, makes the most sense to me.

DKC Seventy-Sixers:

PG: G. Hill/D. Schroder
SG: C. Lee/B. Hield/T. Luwawu
SF:  Giannis/J. Lamb/M. Kuzminskas
PF:  E. Ilyasova/J. Jerebko/R. Christmas
C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson
