Another day, another Chris Paul thread. Same thoughts, same ideas just under another thread title.

basically the c's only hope to be relevant between 2012 and 2016 or whenever, so it's unsurprising

I totally disagree. There are plenty of other options to be explored to ensure the C's stay relevant that do not involve getting Chris Paul.

If Howard reaches Free Agency

He's not going to reach free agency.  Not a chance Orlando lets him go for nothing.

ORL doesn't control whether DH reaches FA. That is entirely in Howard's hands.

ORL could trade him and he still could end up as a FA.

If Howard sees a spot for himself (much the way FAs did this offseason) he could choose to wait until he is a FA to decide where to go.

The one position where we have the most promising player, a potential MVP player, is the one position where everyone wants to make a move!

I'm just disagreeing that getting Chris Paul is the only way the C's stay relevant in years to come. The notion is just ludicrous,IMO.

I get that. But do you have any suggestions how the Celtics can stay relevant? Without Chris Paul, or another elite player, I do not see it happening.

That's my point. Chris Paul does not necessarily need to be a part of it.

Part of Rondo's role on the team was to get the big three up and running.
When they weren't scoring, Rondo made it easier for Perkins and whoever was in his place.
I ask you, why the hell would Dwight want to play with Paul, when he can only get the ball from point guard, and Paul hogs the ball as much as he can. And when he can't, he gives it to his PF or SF.

yeah, but he'll get traded to a decent situation and when offered the money he'll extend there.

I doubt it's the *only* hope.  I mean, in 2006, who was predicting a 2008 title?  Some things just aren't all that foreseeable.

However, CP3 is certainly the clearest / most obvious option, and the best one that we're currently aware of.

 ???

yea because if Chris Paul had Dwight Howard as his center he would refuse to pass it to him because he in not a PF or SF......

for his career paul takes 14 shots per game(derrick rose takes 17 a game) while shooting 47% from the field and 36% from three point land( making the defense actually guard the pg position and opening the floor up for the big men underneath the hoop) . He also dishes out 10 asts per game while only having 2.5 topg for his career( with a lot less talent than Rondo has had)

Paul is unquestionably an upgrade at the point, and a scoring option that would free up the Big 3 more offensively.

Whether the Celtics will pursue him in the off-season is anothr question; I certainly agree with those here who think the call must be made.
Coined the CelticsBlog term, "Euromistake."

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Don't understand why people think that Howard will be traded before his contract is up if he doesn't extend with the magic.

A) the magic + another team have to agree on a deal and that deal will see Howard sign an extension with his new team. (he ain't doing it with anyone).

B)I would rather Rondo work on his shooting and have Rondo+Howard than CP3 + Howard.
Gives the life of the core much longer...CP3 is very fragile and as great as he is, we would be screwed if he had another serious injury.

I think everyone is underestimating how much appeal Rondo has to someone like Howard coming here. He's the league leader in assists (for the most part). Howard would be drooling at the thought of catching lob after lob. Remember how good Rondo made Shaq look at the start of the year?

Rondo is also very defensive minded +he would let Howard be 'the man' so to speak, and this appeals to Howard as well.

Doc Rivers locked up+ Celtics dynasty+ Rondo= very good chance of landing Dwight, and we have to do ANYTHING to get him.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

A. Rondo has had his share of injury problems...foot, elbow off the top of my head. Additionally, his small frame makes him more susceptible to injury.

B. You realize that Paul is every bit the passer that Rondo is, right? He's just better offensively at everything.
