How do we pick coaches when a lot of them are players that haven't been picked yet?

Isn't that breaking the all-important don't mention players rule?
Nope.  Coaches are coaches.  Players are players.  Just because certain guys did both things doesn't matter.  I mean I imagine the next coach taken was also a player in the league, but that doesn't matter for this exercise.

My initial thoughts on Round 5.

What I liked:  Chris Paul & Robert Parish.  (I like the fits a lot.)

What I didn't like:  Reggie Miller, Dennis Rodman, Ben Wallace, and Allen Iverson.  (All too specialized to go this early)

What I'm still thinking over:  Bob Cousy (is he the right fit there?),  Steve Nash (see Bob Cousy), Sam Jones (toughest one to call, IMO.  Heckuva player but is he a starter in this thing?  I don't know),  Bob Lanier (warming up to the idea the more I think about it from a fit standpoint), Dikembe Mutombo (too one-dimensional?)
I'd be kicking myself if this trade actually happened, but I think Nash for Cousy is a no-brainer.  Better fits on both teams.

I would like to point out what Scottie Pippen said today

Quote
"Michael Jordan is probably the greatest scorer to play the game," Pippen said Friday on "Mike & Mike In The Morning" on ESPN Radio. "But I may go as far as to say LeBron James may be the greatest player to ever play the game because he is so potent offensively that not only can he score at will but he keeps everybody involved.  You have to be on your P's and Q's on defense. No guy on the basketball court is a threat to score with LeBron James out there. Not only will LeBron dominate from the offensive end as well, but he's also doing it on the defensive end, which really makes him the complete package. He's able to get in those passing lanes, shoot those gaps and create transition opportunities where he is pretty much unstoppable."

Quote
"I'm seeing a great player, and a player that we've all admired for the last [seven] years of his career, but this [eighth] year here, he has really brought the complete package.  I've never seen a player that can dominate a game the way LeBron James can. He don't always have to score. He makes plays for other guys. But when the game is on the line and you need a shot to be made, he's going to make that play. He's shown that throughout this series that he can make big shots.  I think there has always been a knock on him that he don't make the big shots down the stretch. Well, I think they can put that behind him now. He's a shotmaker. And right now he's a man on a mission."

I know Pip has had some issues with Jordan, but still, strong words from a HOFer.

Too soon Moranis. If you wanna talk about abstracts regarding LeBron or what not, that's fine. But too soon to talk about this year's playoff run. Its just too painful.

I was wondering when Moranis was going to use Pippen's comments to promote his player.

Sam Jones (toughest one to call, IMO.  Heckuva player but is he a starter in this thing?  I don't know)

The way I'm judging this -- i.e., not downgrading players for their era -- I don't think there's any way that Sam Jones *isn't* a starter.  He's easily one of the top-12 shooting guards of all-time in my mind.

Edgar/Redz/IP - disregard...I get it. Going off of very little sleep lately. :)

For those of you who may not know - I am in a similar situation as Bahku - except I completely tore my right Achilles playing the sport I love back on Apr 2nd.

My recovery has been rather slow, but steady. And I have been very immobile since Apr - moreso than I've ever been.

I've enjoyed the rest, but I am looking forward to running again.

Good luck in your recovery, GF.  Sounds painful.

Now I'm really confused...pls PM me.

He's saying just make a team you're happy with, because even if you pick a team full of talented players everyone agrees is awesome, if you're not happy with it, it won't be satisfying.

And I think that's a solid approach.

It's always handy to have an interpreter around. Do you do Swahili as well?

even better, Do you talk Edgar?

I disagree, I need Nash's shooting to help spread the court

I mean come on.  One of the 50 greatest players in NBA history, who played with perhaps the best ever believes Lebron James is on that level.  Why wouldn't I mention it?  Perfect timing by Pippen if you ask me.

33-00-32 said he'd be gone for a few days, and didn't want to hold up the coach's round.  His choice:

Chuck Daly.

Not as much as Jordan does.

Nash puts a pretty big hole in your almost impenetrable defense.  Cousy would strengthen it while still being a beast combo with Barkley.

David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels

So are we gonna get an answer to KC's question or can I take Russell as my coach?

My qualm is probably more with the Cousy pick than the Nash pick.

There is a PG that I would've much preferred over Cousy for that team and I think would've been the ideal fit.

(Hope that doesn't get me in trouble)
