I really like the Kidd pick.  Beauty is in the eye of the beholder with PGs at this point, but how many guys are All-Defense, plus have the ability to put up a triple double every night?

This is the guy I probably would have taken instead of Gary Payton if I was GF (almost equal defense, better overall), but again, it's a personal preference.
Kidd was one of the two players I was looking at.  The other is still there, maybe I will get lucky.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson

Ugh. I was hoping he'd slip to me at 4.8. I don't think I would've drafted him, but it would've made my decision easier for this round (and next).

Hey guys, how about we stop making good picks? Sooooo 2006

I think your biggest strenght is prime time shaq

I would hope so, he was my number 1 pick haha.

Also, this is kind of off topic but when you talk about comparing era's Daniel Tosh had a really funny joke about Babe Ruth and Barry Bonds.  Saying people shouldnt be hating on bonds and the steroid era guys so much because guys like Ruth never had a pitcher Like CC Sabathia staring him down throwing 90 MPH sliders.  Or for that matter, Babe never had to play against Negro League Players

Yeah, it brings us back to the same type of argument.  I personally think that players like Bonds and Ruth would have been great in any era.  Put them in the year 2085, with the advantages of people of that era, and they'd dominate, as well.  (As a wild aside, people *should* criticize Barry Bonds for cheating, though.  He had the God-given talent to dominate without enhancements.)
The thing is Bill Russell will always be 6'9".  Sure he would be a lot stronger if he played today, but he would still be 6'9".  For me that is how I look at it, I don't look so much as weight, strength, power, speed, etc., but some things aren't going to change and height is one of them.  Another is athleticism.  Either you are athletic or you aren't.

So if I was judging this thing, I wouldn't put much stock in weight, but absolutely would put a lot of stock in height.

So, the average height of NBA players have stayed the same over the years?

Yeah, I don't think I can keep height static.  The average male height has grown 1.5" since 1960.  I've got to think that basketball players would have grown as much, if not more.

It brings a very subjective element into evaluating, but heck, this whole thing is subjective.
Perhaps but there were 8 teams in the 1959-60, Wilt and Dukes were the only 7' players, but there were quite a few guys at 6'11" and only one guy below 6'0".  It wasn't like the NBA was comprised of a bunch of midgets in the early 60's.

I'm biased, but some - one in particular - undersized centers in the modern era were certainly able to hold their own on the defensive end of things.

Based off that, I think its fair to assume that a modernized Bill Russell could play center in today's game.

Petitt and Ewing were both guys I wanted, Petitt really.

No problem with Hayes though.  Roy, since you brought up which year, here's a question to the panelists:  the fact that a player won the title in a certain year technically doesn't matter right?  I mean it's not like we're putting them with the same team they had that year.  I guess my real question is what matters more numbers (how they actually played) or awards?
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

If Powe and BBD can,  being the first able to beat the Celtics while doing that
why not.

certainly a fair point, but it isn't like the modern centers are the centers that are depicted in this game.  I mean Tyson Chandler, Joel Anthony, and Joakim Noah are essentially the starting centers still playing.  Not exactly the same thing as Kareem, Shaq, Hakeem, etc.

I have been picking seasons based on stats, but if the stats are close (even if slightly worse) I am taking the title and award winning season.  To me that says more then an extra point per game or an extra rebound.
