Not a bad pick at all from WeMadeIt17, for Karl Malone. Mailman was my 2nd pick, behind KG...I would've been comfortable picking Karl or KG.

Mailman's defense is very under-rated, too...checking basketballrefernce.com, he has several Defensive awards as well.
Is four in 18 years a lot? I suppose you only need 1 for the purpose of this draft. I love the Mailman and had him in my next 5 to 7 but have a few guys I liked better.

If I remember correctly, last year's Historical Draft listed all of the player's acccomplishments - not just one year.

I think the choice of which year you pick for your team is dependent upon how they could mesh together.

I'm certain that you're incorrect. It was definitely one year accomplishments, I remember one player in particular sparked up the debate for this.
last year was definitely just one year as I had a guy who was a one year wonder (so to speak), which did spark a bit of a debate.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

McHale gives me a versatile defender to matchup with all the great fours combined with a great defender in Wilt. Plus on offense who do you double?

I like the Elgin pick but he and Wilt didn't mess. Elgin loved to drive and Wilt clogged the lane for him. Something to actually worry about with Shaq.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
McHale has always been a slightly better lowpost scorer than KG,

Slightly? He's the best, most creative, low-post scorer of all time. I think KG is in fact a better defender than McHale, but KG's offense is pedestrian compared to McHale's torture chamber. Thats like saying Robert Downey Jr is a 'slightly more versatile' actor than Arnold Schwarzenegger.

McHale had KG's range but was so much more than that. KG's low post array is really good, but not on McHale's level.

(I love Kevin McHale.)

Well, for my team KG fits well...LA will leave the torture business to one of the top 3-4 Bigs of all time (Kareem).

Ah, but then who guards Wilt? KG's awesome, but on Wilt? Eh...

I think Defensively KG would give McHale fits...as for Wilt vs Kareem?

The sound quality is poor, but I'd say that Kareem vs Wilt is a wash.

SO - I just checked last year's Historical Draft write-ups, and the two I checked (mines and Nicks) did include the full write-up of accomplishments.

Check the archives.

Im not to worried about it.  Shaq can clog the lane on defense and get out of the way but make himself available for the dump off passes on the offensive end.

Well it that case this year's grading will be quite interesting and subjective...there are a LOT of awards/honors for players picked so far.

Ah, that was my original question. I disagree, but I don't know by how much. I think 'fits' is a bit extreme, but McHale never saw anyone with KG's length+athleticism.

I don't know if it's possible, but I'd love to see if someone could post these squads in NBA 2K11 once it's all done?

That's a lot of work for some seriously silly results based on the last time it was done.

And that was without having to deal with using stats for older players!

While we hold, can we get a definitive answer on this? Going through last years forums this was never truly answered:

When we're picking a player for a season, are the judges to be blind to the remainder of the career?

For example let's say for one year Player X was just on fire. Top player in the league in every sense. But for varying reasons he was never able to compete at the same level every other season.

In the judges opinion if you picked Player X for that one year would he be more valuable than say an established Hall of Famer who despite had years of consistent excellence, never approached the same level that Player X did in his one truly great season?

(i hope this makes sense its awfully hard to word)

Yeah, but there is already some confusion here, IMO, on how teams are constructed and whatnot.

To me, every poster here so far has picked a competitive squad.....at the end of the day, though, there will be some long debates on who works with who...who could've been picked earlier, etc.

I just think that with LA, I will encounter some bias on a Celtics Board, but that's just me.

I say just sit back, relax, and enjoy the show.  It's not the CB draft.
