Moses was tenacious back in the day. No one could keep that man off the boards.

Moranis had a good pick, here.

In this vid, even my Kareem was a victim of Moses' tenacity:

I loved the Kevin Garnett pick.

I think he has tremendous value in an environment like this because of his versatility and defensive range. Please do not limit KG to one position. He has the ability to create and eliminate matchups across the board. All five positions.
That's why I thought he'd be awesome with LeBron, two guys who could play anywhere and excel.
Oh yeah, that would have been beautiful.

That was the pick I was hoping Moranis was going to make too.

In the next two rounds, add in a top center with legitimate size and interior defense / rebounding + a quality ball-handler / passer / defender with size on the perimeter. Lovely stuff.
The problem is by the time I pick again, there aren't going to be that many, if any, top centers left.  I think C is the one position you have to get in the first two rounds of this thing, everywhere else you can wait, but not center.
This I do not agree with.

I think there are literally 10-15 really high quality centers available that have had truly amazing seasons and who played the players already drafted to a standstill quite a bit.

Remember, this is an all-time draft using one season.

BTW, I noticed some competitive juices were flowing while I was doing some work and just want to say, this is a fun endeavor.'

Several awards are given out for teams and many more for individual players. Chances are everyone is going to be recognized for putting a team together or drafting a player in some way.

Also, because this is an exercise in putting together players from different times, it is also meant as a learning experience. Take the time to research players at basketball-reference.com or nba.com. Take a look at players stats from an era you are not familiar with. You tube some video on the players.

Because when this draft is over, in truth, there are going to be 12 unbelievably talented teams and the difference between the worst team to the best is going to be negligible, but you might come away from this with something more than a title to put next to your name on Celticsblog. You might come away with a deeper and more appreciative understanding of the game and the players that built this league.

Nick's right.

If you want cut-throat competition with drama and back-stabbing, look no further than the annual CB Draft.

Coming this summer to a messageboard near you!   ;)

I'm in agreement with Nick. yes you have your few guys at the top but we can't all pick in the top 5. We're talking about 51 years of NBA, there can't be only 5 quality big guy seasons. I still have a couple of guys in mind for my team and I feel like I could make an argument for them against any other that has been drafted so far.

I understand not wanting to take the risk.  My guess, though, is that by the time your pick comes around again, there will still be a few HOF big men left on the board.  I think there are some guys who will be overlooked.
quite possibly and I might very well take one of them to play at PF if the skill set is correct.  Take Russell, I think you could make a strong case to play him at PF.  He wasn't overly tall and was athletic enough to guard most PF's.

Also, I just flat out believe Moses Malone is better then Kevin Garnett.  He isn't as versatile of course, and isn't the defender (though Moses isn't a slouch, especially in the year I am taking), but Moses is a better scorer and better rebounder and that is just more valuable in this situation.  If you start drafting for need or fit and pass up better players it will likely hurt you at some point as you can always take need in the later rounds.

As an example, Nick has an amazing backcourt of Magic and West and I can think of many options for his bigs. I have two stellar bigs and have plenty of ideas for my other spots. Plus my bench. There will be some sensational players not drafted.

Still excited to see who Bahku picks.

Great pairs so far:

Michael Jordan / ?
Larry Bird / David Robinson
Shaquille O'Neal / Elgin Baylor
Bill Russell / Charles Barkley
Kobe Bryant / Karl Malone
Wilt Chamberlain / Kevin McHale
Hakeem Olajuwon / Scottie Pippen
Magic Johnson / Jerry West
Kareem Abdul-Jabber / Kevin Garnett
Oscar Robertson / Julius Erving
Tim Duncan / John Havlicek
Lebron James / Moses Malone

My top-four (very narrowly):

Really, though, every single combo is a great one.

I will be traveling for work tomorrow and will have limited access.  I may make my pick Thursday morning.  I pick last so I'm not overly worried about it, but did want to throw it out there in case anyone was wondering.

I have 3 picks lined up, I wonder if any of the 3 will last till the end of the round.

Yeah, lots of fantastic duos.

Those ones in blue are my favourites so far. The Shaq/Baylor and Russell/Barkley are next in line.

Very much looking forward to seeing how that Russell and Barkley team rounds out. That could be a really, really, really fun basketball team.

Sometimes he works late, wouldn't be surprised if we saw both picks tomorrow morning.
