I could see Austin trying to do an Eli Manning impression. There were some other nab draft picks that said "heck no".  Jerry Stackhouse told the Clippers not to pick him.  Didn't someone like Steve Francis or something force a trade?  Ricky Rubio is soaking up sun in Spain with Fran Vazquez.

In the other hand I could see Austin shooting himself before playing for his father.

On the other hand I could see his father being conflicted about teaching players how to defend his kid.

If Austin pulls an Eli Manning that will be one more body that Stern will know where is buried.

I don't think Austin Rivers is going to be that good of a player, unfortunately.

Not unless you are expecting Rivers to have a terrible season next year.  He will likely be a top 5 pick.

We have the Clippers 2012 1st round pick man, its not that outlandish.

It's top 10 protected though.

I agree actually.  Unless he improves a ton on the defensive side of the ball he's not going to start in front of Curry or Dawkins next year and I think he's to small(only 6'3) to play the 3 spot in college, which is basically the only open spot in Duke's starting 5.

What position would Austin play in the NBA?

What position would Austin play in the NBA?

Depends on how well he can shoot, play off the ball (and how much muscle-mass he can gain).

There are plenty of very successful shooting guards in the league around 6'3'' or 6'4'' (Monta, Eric Gordon, Dwyane Wade, Jason Terry, Marcus Thornton, O.J. Mayo, Ben Gordon etc etc).

If he can't shoot or play off the ball, though, it'll be hard for him to stick at SG.  Monta kind of has that problem, but he's been allowed to dominate the ball in GS and he's improved his shot.

I think having a father coach his son in the pros is a disaster waiting to happen.
ha ha ha.  Yeah, probably a lot worse than a husband and wife playing bridge as parners, even!

I just can't see a father coaching his son in the pros. As others have pointed out as well, it seems likely that Rivers will be drafted before #11, which is the earliest we could pick.

If he comes out after one year without having started, I don't see how he goes that high.

Has a father ever coached his son in the pros?

We need to remember that Austin will be playing for Coach K who will likely limit his minutes and his shots if his history is any indicator.  Therefore, Austin could very well go in the teens.

If Austin comes to the Celts we all will just have to agree to agree when Austin and his dad show up with black eyes at practice and are like "uh....we tripped and hit a door knob...both of us."
