Brendan, I think you missed my point. Danny won't trade Rondo for CP3 without him agreeing to a longterm extension first and I honestly think its unrealistic to expect him to. CP3 wants to go to NY, which is a big part of the Knicks picking up Chauncey's TO to use in a trade. I know some people might not wanna believe this: but CP3 just might not want to play in Boston, but wants NY, or even LA, instead.

The reality is outside of Boston, Rondo isn't highly viewed.

Based on what? His high finish in the DPOY voting, his high vote total for the all-defense team, his getting the 14th highest vote total of all the players for the all-nba team, his inclusion in some lists of top 10 mvp candidates late in the season, all the announcers, reporters and talking heads I've heard refer to him as our best player in the last two weeks?

Note that none of this really shows him to be a good or bad player, but do you have any evidence at all that your claim is true?

They could have sent Rondo to Utah for Deron Williams. Much better offer than what the Jazz actually got. Rondo wasnt traded for him, he's not going to be traded for anybody.
If I'm Utah I absolutely want Derrick Favors, Devin Harris, 2 first rounders (one in the lottery), and cash over Rajon Rondo and whatever else the Celtics would send back for Deron Williams.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

BballTim - you forgot to mention his 2 all-star appearances (voted by the coaches, btw).

Imo, the only people who undervalue Rondo is his own fanbase.

Deng and Bogans can hit the 3 decently....with Rondo their scoring would increase.

With Rose gone there would be more FGAs for Boozer and Noah too.

Maybe that's because we get to see him every game and know his weaknesses. Most just look at the box score and the C's record. We get to see his greatness and his flaws night in and night out.

He is a very good player. I wouldn't put him in the discussion of the elite PG's like Rose, CP3 and DWill. I'd put him in that next crop with Nash and Westbrook.

That said, if word gets around that Ainge is shopping him, Rondo's value immediately goes down. If we don't want him, who would? I'd wait and see if anyone calls first if I were Ainge. If he goes hard looking to move him, he is going to pay through the nose to get someone like CP3.

Everyone likes Rondo for CP3, but I am not sure NOH would. Ainge might have to get creative and either make it a three team deal or trade Rondo for young talent than flipping that for CP3.

It honestly seems too difficult now, the time was probably last offseason when CP3 was much more vocal about being unhappy, was coming off an poor season by his standards, and Rondo was a few minutes away from probably winning Finals MVP, but we will see.

That said, I'd still be happy with him at PG opening-night next season.

there is no secret conspiracy. this is what "certain" fans want because they think this is an easy way to the ship with the aging big three. it actually would probably backfire pretty badly, with Rondo looking better with whatever team he is sent to (ala Tony, Perk, Posey)while CP3 will be a major disappoint due to overblown expectations. be careful what you wish for folks. you can't fix problems with band-aids folks, trust me Rondo is not the problem with this team.
Perk hasn't looked great, Tony had plenty of bad play to start the season, has played great since Gay went down, and Posey got worse every year. Other than that I totally agree.
True Posey may be a stretch here. But it's seems that the general feeling is that TA and Perk look better, though I agree that Perk hasn't looked great, but both lasted in the Offs longer than the C's and that does look good. Also the fanbase of those teams definitely thank the Celtic organization for blindly letting them go.

It's true that people here notice the flaws of players on the Celts and assume that players on other teams don't have similar (or different) issues. But I think it goes beyond that with Rondo because he's such a lightning rod. People read about Rondo's flaws and watch games looking to see those flaws. If they see one or two instances of the issue over the 38 minutes he plays they assume it's true without giving any thought to things like how often other players on the court do the same thing.

I don't see it this way.  With Rondo's man sagging off on defense, everyone else would be trying to score against double teams.  Guys only get open look 3's when some one else is double teamed.  Even weak side screening doesn't work because with the extra defender (the one not covering Rondo), a defender can flash into the passing lane while still covering the screen and the role.

Bulls are getting open looks because 2 or 3 defenders are trying to stop Rose.  With Rondo, Boozer may get more attempts but the man sagging off Rondo would be in his face so he wouldn't score as much either.

Well his own franchise and of course Coach K when selecting for the Olympic Team, but what does he know.

Agree completely...personally I think people outside of Boston and the national media give Rondo credit more than most Celtics fans do.

I don't know if this is true or not but if it is, then it is time to trade Rondo and get the most possible value back for him.

I suspect that most of the other 29 GM's are smarter than the "national media" and have Rondo's value pegged more neutrally.  I saw find the GM who is the exception and is buying into the national media hype and that is who we want to trade with.

People act like Rondo wanders around the court completely ignored by the opposing team. This really isn't the case. It must amaze you when he gets a single assist in the half court, what with the situation you're describing. Yet somehow he spent most of the year leading the league in assists and his team shoots significantly better when he plays. Oh, and Boozer and Deng and Korver and probably some of the others shot *below* their career averages in spite of all of those uncontested shots.
