Doc didn't get Jackie Mack's memo...Pierce has a low closer percentage.A few months ago she did an article on best closers around the league.
My problem with Doc has been since the Big 3 came he hasn't added any new plays or players in a closer's role. With Ray being a better outside shooter than Pierce or just as good you'd think he would get equal if not more opportunites to finish games.Im sick of the same ISO's for Pierce.Im not a big Doc fan anyhow and this is just one of the reason's why.

Von Wafer is an offensive explosion in a bottle. Doc doesnt play him because of his attitude.

Doc lost game 7 last year because he didnt leave the bench in long enough and decided to ride the starters into the ground.

He lost this game for us tonight because he decided to go small because miami went small and that resulted in us getting out scored 27-17.

Totally agree with what you said right there. Didn't want to believe it as first, but yeah Doc cost us those games

When we sealed the Game 3 win Rondo was in the locker room. This team can play and win without Rondo. You dont play a guy who dislocated his elbow 2 days ago 39 minutes.

Doc opted to go with a guy playing on one arm over a healthy Carlos Arroyo. Anyone else think Rondo should have sat voluntarily knowing maybe a healthy player like Carlos might be able to give the team more. Nah Rondos pride would never allow that. ::)

I don't think too many people think Rondo should have voluntarily sat so we could get more minutes for Arroyo. Frankly I doubt he could have played as well as Rondo did tonight.

By the way, when Rondo left the game with the injury we were up 10 and when he came back in at the end of the quarter we were up 11. Treading water without Rondo was fairly impressive compared to what had happened with Rondo out of the games up until then. For the series we're a +15 with Rondo playing and -27 with him on the bench.

Tim no one here expects you to have a objective opinion on Rondo.
Do you seriously believe its better to play a guy with a dislocated elbow over a healthy player?

Haha. You're the objective one? Everything in my post was true, which in your universe translates to "hopelessly biased". God forbid someone bring some facts into one of your anti-Rondo rants.

To answer your question, I seriously think that it's better to play the players that give you the best chance of winning. Rondo didn't have a great game but I don't think  it's a stretch to say he did better than Arroyo would have or Delonte would have. It didn't bother me when Doc sat Rondo to play Jeff Green late in the game. For the most part Rondo didn't really hurt our team, although clearly he wasn't at his best. And obviously it's not the first time that one of the big four have been injured or the first time that injured player was in the game with a healthy player on the bench.

right because no other point guard could possibly contribute more than 5 assists and 3 turnovers in 38 minutes. ::)

And obviously it's not the first time that one of the big four have been injured or the first time that injured player was in the game with a healthy player on the bench.

a one armed Rondo is better than a healthy Carlos is that what your saying?

God forbid someone bring some facts into one of your anti-Rondo rants

you mean Rondo facts like your efg% argument here http://forums.celticsblog.com/index.php?topic=45922.75
you still havnt answered me how efg is anywhere near meaningful when a rotating interior big like Garnett stops rondos man and rondo gets a efg% rating.

I don't know if that's what Tim is saying, but that's what I'd argue.  Even an injured Rondo outpaced Arroyo's typical production, and he certainly played better defense.

Now, if somebody wants to argue that they'd have liked to see a more traditional lineup for stretches, with Delonte + "big three" + JO, I can't argue.  However, I think giving Arroyo any type of meaningful minutes would have been a mistake.

Yes, because that's all we get from Rondo, as far as you know.

And obviously it's not the first time that one of the big four have been injured or the first time that injured player was in the game with a healthy player on the bench.

I've said that explicitly multiple times. The Celts coaches seem to agree FWIW.

God forbid someone bring some facts into one of your anti-Rondo rants

Good discussion. Neither of us can demonstrate the effect rotating bigs have on Rondo or on any other point guard. I've never said that stats measure everything. Just like you were talking about how poorly Rondo defends quick point guards without being able to name a single starting point guard in the league who does it as well as Rondo, let alone better.

But really, what was the root of that discussion? Your comment of

"His defense is putrid. He cant stay in front of his man."

Let's examine that. NBA scouts and GMs voted Rondo best in the league in a few categories including best on the ball defender in the league by a pretty large margin. He's finished top 5 in DPOY the last two years. He's made first team all-defense two years in a row and been the second highest vote getter both years, easily beating the other guards. All-defense is voted on by the head coaches that have their teams play against Rondo. And, while stats don't tell you everything, they clearly back up what the coaches and GMs say.

But, go ahead. Keep telling yourself that Rondo's a putrid defender and the only reason I'd disagree is my "bias".

Also, all that stuff about head coaches and GMs thinking Rondo's the best defensive guard in the league aren't stats, but they are *facts*.

First this is not about players that have 20,000pts or more but whats happening in today's NBA...As recent as April SI did a survey on best closers in today's'NBA by asking 166 current(active)NBA players who were the 5 best closers in the game today and this is how they ranked them,1.Kobe,2.Durant,3.D.Wade,4.Ray Allen, and 5.Nowitski.

My point is im not trying to say Pierce is not a clutch player but there is evidence out there that Ray has closer and clutch mentality as well.Doc doesn't utilize all of his options enough in my opinion.

Wow a player's poll of who is the best closer
That is an opinion....not a fact. Opinions don't win games for you

Kobe has been less clutch than Paul Pierce, plain and simple. Its obvious in the stats

I have no issue with Rondo playing in the crunch.

It was playing both Rondo and West in the crunch a not using a 2nd big man I thought was bad.

Doc has the unfortunate tendency of riding his starters into the ground in key situations.

This is not a Kobe vs Pierce debate, secondly i give more creditabilty to NBA players opinions about other players alone with a few creditable sports writers, and where is your opinion about Ray being a closer in some instances?Twice you have replied but not once did you mention your thoughts about Doc using or not using Ray in the closers role.If you want to hate on Kobe thats your right but i neither care or see where his place on the closer list has much to do with whats happening on the Celtics team.

You have to consider the difference between Ray and Paul. If Ray's open (or close to open) then he gets the ball and takes an open (or almost open) shot. Paul takes a lot of those shots with someone in his face because better options aren't available. Switch their roles so PP is the spot up shooter and Ray tries to create his own offense or dish the ball (egads, btw) and you'd see quite a difference between their "closer" numbers.

My biggest coaching complaint is the same as the one from game 7 against LA last year. Doc should have used the bench more, even just to give the gassed starters a 2-3 minute break in the early 4th.

It was sad and frustrating to see Ray and KG look so tired. Especially when they came up way short on jump shots.
