Big problem last night: when the game was tied 80, 4 of their next 6 possessions were 2 Big Baby ISO's, a Rondo jumper and a JO FGA
Just because Mr. Triple Double (who?!) said it, it must explain everything.

Pretty talented writer on Red's Army who does a good job breaking down the X's and O's of Celtics games. He reviewed the game and found the information. Regardless, does it matter who (?!) said it? It's not like he's casting judgement, its an absolute fact.

- I don't understand, even w/ an ailing back, how you could possibly allow Rajon Rondo to sit 6 minutes in the fourth quarter.
He still played 41 minutes in the game, that's how.

Anyway you look at it, its a mistake by Doc. He can't be sitting for half of the fourth quarter. Either have him play more - which he's no stranger to doing - or schedule his minutes better.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Doc doesnt make in game adjustments that actually change the game in our favor.

Doc stubborness to stick to the same rotations no matter what is going on at the moment is what cost us that game. 7:10 the game was tied at 80.
sorry but that is completely overstated exaggerated garbage.
They won the game because Lebron hit those very difficult and bad shots.

I don't know why you guys are hammering Baby so much.
Davis is a proven player on the low post late in games.
Remember how many games he has won for us with those baseline spins to the hoop? He gets fouled and hits his free throws.
After 3 or 4 attempts the Heat will start concentrating on him and then it will open up the rest of the floor for Paul and Ray and Rondo.
Unluckily for us big baby didn't get fouled and couldn't put any of this low post shots in which he would normally be favored to make a few of them, if not at least drawing fouls on the big men or the help defender. The reason they were more aggressive is because the Heat's low post defenders weren't in foul trouble so they went after him.
It was an unlucky night.
we are down 2-0.
Now it's time to go defend home court which we should be able to do.
Chins up.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Doc said Rondo asked out early in the 4th quarter: (per Boston Globe)

"I don't know why it was bothering him." said Rivers. "But it was bothering him this morning. It was bothering him throughout the game, too, and at one point he was asking to come out because it got tight. It was at the beginning of the fourth quarter. He needed to come out.

Don't blame Doc, Rondo was hurting. And as for the team's offense, as Rondo goes, so goes the offense, they played hard, played solid defense, but with Rondo and Paul banged up, they just didn't have enough to get the W. I'm surprised they managed to stay in the game until the 4th. I give our guys credit, they played hard, and for people saying we're too old, it was our young guys (Rondo with a bad back and Davis being Davis) that let us down.

Thanks for the link. I stand corrected there. Odd that he came back in and seemed to be OK.

Yea, to me he looked much better when he came back in, but I noticed in the 1st half even before they mentioned the injury he looked odd, his posture while dribbling was stiff and high and he looked tentative

I don't understand why we go small ball against a small team. We should stay BIG and pound Miami inside to open up our outside more. Jermaine Oneal was huge lastnight keeping balls alive and offensive rebounding. But he wasn't in there when it mattered most to protect our paint in the 4th quarter. We rely to heavily on big baby.

Who do we pound inside with? KG is too scared to play inside, he just wants to shoot 18 foot jumpers.

They lost because of being outrebounded 11-4 in the last 7:10. The wrong players on the floor at the wrong time creating unfavorable matchups. Even Doc admitted after the game he should have subbed in Jermaine for Baby earlier. To his credit Lebron and the Heat hit some shots but I am not buying your anaylsis of it being a "unlucky night"

Absolutely credit the Heat for hitting shots. We definitely could've lost even if Doc had a perfect coaching night. But he didn't. In my opinion, he was fairly miserable and it defintely hampered our ability to pull out a very important W.

little off topic but is it me or do we actually defend Joel Anthony a little too much? I see our bigs denying the entry ball in the post to him and I even saw us try and trap him a couple times in the game

We should absolutely be inviting him to do whatever he wants. Let him get the ball, let him dribble, step off of him 10 feet.

Also as someone already mentioned when Joel Anthony is on the floor our 5th guy on the floor really shouldn't matter how they are on defense. Green, Wafer, West - just throw them on Anthony.

Yeah, it wasn't an unlucky night.  The celtics got outplayed and Doc got out coached.  Why are we hammering Baby?  It's as simple as this, he has SUCKED the last month.  I've been a very big supporter of Davis all the way through.  From when they drafted him to the Powe vs Davis argument and even in the first half of the season, but he has STUNK.   He's taking shots outside of his range, he's not rebounding, his defense has been sub-par.  His +/- for the first two games is something ridiculous like -34.  You mention him drawing fouls and shooting free throws, he's attempted 7 foul shots in the 6 playoff games so far, 3 of which he attempted last night.  He's playing too far away from the basket and shooting too many jumpers.  Until he gets back inside, and shortens his range to 15 feet, he's useless.  I loved Davis' game of 2 years ago, now it's just garbage.
do it

I don't understand why Doc played 5 members of the bench at once. That didn't work during the regular season and it sure as hell won't work in the playoffs.

When he did it, someone had gotten hurt, it was only for like 2 minutes, but it shouldn't have been done.  With Rondo, Allen, Pierce and KG, 2 of those guys need to be on the floor at all times, no matter what.  That's why Ginobili comes off the bench in San Antonio.  It makes it easier to ensure that either him, Parker or Duncan will be on the court at all times.
